Advice needed. Do soaps matter?

Looks like a lot of good advice already. Just remember that sometimes there is a lathering product that just doesn’t work well for you, regardless of how well it is liked by others. I’ve had a negative reaction to a couple of very popular soaps that I had to toss. I’m also not a fan of the very popular Proraso cream. Apparently it just doesn’t work well with my chemistry, beard, preferences, etc.

The water is very hard in my city. Does that influence (some) soaps?

Yes. I live in area with extremely hard water. Using hot water to bloom the soap for a few seconds then hot water on the brush works for me. Hot as in straight from the hot tap, not scalding hot.
