Advice for life.

This is not mine but I saw it and felt it was worth sharing.

Your father probably told you a few things, but just in case he wasn’t around enough, here are some words of wisdom you might have missed out on:

Buy high quality tools, so you only have to buy them once.

Keep a change of clothes at the office.

Never hit anyone unless they are an immediate threat.

Every hat should serve a purpose.

Never take her to the movies on the first date.

Learn to wet shave.

Nothing looks more badass than a well-tailored suit.

Shave with the grain on the first go-around.

Always look a person in the eye when you talk to them.

Buy a plunger before you need a plunger.

Exercise makes you happy. Run, lift, and play sports.

A small amount of your paycheck should go directly to your savings account every month.

Call Mom and Dad every week.

Never wear a clip-on tie.

Give a firm handshake.

Always stand to shake someone’s hand.

Never lend anything you can’t afford to lose.

Ask more than you answer. Everybody likes to talk about themselves.

Never have sex with anyone that doesn’t want it as much as you.

Go for women out of your league. You may end up surprised.

Manliness is not only being able to take care of yourself, but others as well.

Go with the decision that will make for a good story.

When you walk, look straight ahead, not at your feet.

Nice guys don’t finish last, boring guys do.

Find your passion and figure out how to get paid for it.

Don’t let the little head do the thinking for the big head.

No matter their job or status, everyone deserves your respect.

The most important thing you can learn is personal responsibility. Bad things happen; it’s your job to overcome them.

The first one to get angry loses.

A man does what needs to be done without complaining.

Never stop learning.

Always go out into public dressed like you’re about to meet the love of your life.

Don’t change yourself just to make someone happy.

If you’re the smartest person in the room, you’re in the wrong room.

Luck favors the prepared.

Women find confidence sexy as hell.

Do whatever you want to do, but be the best at it.

No one is on their deathbed wishing they spent more time at work.

I like such lists, reading them makes me think...

Reminds me of the NCIS Gibbs rules.

They don't all apply to most folks but many are good for all. :thumbup1:

(And yes, some numbers have more than one rule, and some are skipped)

NCIS Gibbs Rules
1) Never let suspects stay together.
1) Never screw (over) your partner.
2) Always wear gloves at a crime scene.
3) Don't believe what you're told. Double check.
3) Never be unreachable.
4) If you have a secret, the best thing is to keep it to yourself. The second-best is to tell one other person if you must. There is no third best.
5) You don't waste good.
6) Never say you're sorry. It's a sign of weakness.
7) Always be specific when you lie.
8) Never take anything for granted.
9) Never go anywhere without a knife.
10) Never get personally involved in a case.
11) When the job is done, walk away.
12) Never date a coworker.
13) Never, ever involve lawyers.
14) Bend the line, don't break it.
15) Always work as a team.
16) If someone thinks they have the upper hand, break it.
18) It's better to ask forgiveness than ask permission.
20) Always look under
22) Never, ever interrupt Gibbs in interrogation.
23) Never mess with a Marine's coffee if you want to live.
27) There are two ways to follow someone.
> 1st way - they never notice you;
> 2nd way - they only notice you.
35) Always watch the watchers.
36) If it feels like you're being played, you probably are.
38) Your case, your lead.
39) There is no such thing as coincidence.
40) If it seems like someone's out to get you, they are.
42) Don't ever accept an apology from someone that just sucker-punched you.
44) First things first, hide the women and children
45) Clean up your messes.
51) Sometimes - you're wrong
62) Leave room for someone exiting the elevator.
69) Never trust a woman who doesn't trust her man.
70) Keep digging till you hit bottom
* While most of the rules are for everyday use, Gibbs' rules 40-49 are considered emergency rules, to be invoked only in the most dire of circumstances. ("Rule Fifty-One") When Gibbs told Abby that rule 40 was in play, and Abby told Tony, he took it to mean that "something unspeakably bad is going down."

Other unnumbered Rules from other NCIS characters
Never date a woman that eats more than you do.
The Unspoken Rule - You do what you have to do for family
Don't work the system when you can work the people
Don't stop checking and rechecking evidence until you are satisfied.
If you want to find something, you follow it.
Never second guess yourself in a relationship and life.
Never make excuses.
Never lie to… (Gibbs or Abby)
Don't sit on the sidelines while your people are in trouble.
Never underestimate your opponent
Always keep a spare.

John Wayne as Davy Crockett in The Alamo

I’m gonna tell you something, Flaca, and I want you to listen tight. May sound like I’m talkin’ about me. But I’m not. I’m talkin’ about you. As a matter of fact, I’m talkin’ about all people everywhere. When I come down here to Texas, I was lookin’ for somethin’. I didn’t know what. Seems like you added up my life and I spent it all either stompin’ other men or, in some cases, gettin’ stomped. Had me some money and had me some medals. But none of it seemed a lifetime worth of the pain of the mother that bore me. It was like I was empty. Well, I’m not empty anymore. That’s what’s important, to feel useful in this old world, to hit a lick against what’s wrong or to say a word for what’s right even though you get walloped for sayin’ that word. Now I may sound like a Bible beater yellin’ up a revival at a river crossing camp meeting, but that don’t change the truth none. There’s right and there’s wrong. You got to do one or the other. You do the one and you’re livin’. You do the other and you may be walkin’ around, but you’re dead as a beaver hat.

It's only illegal if you get caught.

Discretion is the better part of valor.

Don't get involved in domestic disputes.

If you can afford more, you will pay more.

The House always wins.

The lottery is a tax for people who are not good at statistics.

Quit when you're ahead.

Always use your turn signals.

Never trust turn signals. But still always use them.

Braking is for stop signs, red lights, and emergencies.

Training a pet is the best way to improve their quality of life, and yours.

Lead, follow, or get out of the way.

Don't try to give 110%, you'll just burn out. Give your sustainable best.

Women usually don't want a solution to their problem. They just want you to listen and sympathize.

Violence may not always be the answer, but it's certainly one of the choices.

Don't worry about the mule going blind; just load the wagon.

If you can't see the shiny side; polish the dull side.

YOU CAN'T FIX STUPID!!!!!!!!!

Never take her to the movies on the first date.
Well, 36 years ago next April I did, best decision EVER. Love the list, though. Most of this I have to say right on.

You don't pull the mask off that old lone ranger

And you don't mess around with Jim
