Advice for copying 1,500+ photos to give to friends.

I have at least 1,500+ photos of camping trips my friends and I have taken over the course of 6-8 years. I'd like to give the photos to my friends so they all have copies. They are all digital stored on my comp & external HD.

I would need at least 8 copies of all the photos to give to each of the friends that went.

my idea is to purchase 8 SD cards, and copy the photos to the cards. Do you think this would be the most time efficient and cost efficient way?

Thanks!

I would think hard copies on SD or discs would be the way to go. Uploading all the pics would be a pain compared to burning a few discs.

I actually thought about the online gallery first because that would be free but talked myself out of it because i thought if they wanted to print them that might be inconvenient.

i'm looking for the cheapest way to go about this but convenient for them to have access to them.

SD cards are speed overkill and you have to hope everyone has a decent card reader. I think thumb drives are so cheap now that it is a no-brainer to use them for sharing digital memories. No additional hardware required.

ahhhh forgot about thumb drives!! I've seen them sold in 4pks too. nice!

Make some memories out of your memories; look online for some personalized flash drives and have them printed or engraved. Maybe Cafe Press or something? That would really put the finishing touch on your project.

Just burn them onto a DVD. Depending on the size of the images a 4gb DVD can hold a ton of photos. They cost, what, 50c each? A buck with a case?

Maybe check out Dropbox?

I don't have any experience with it, but people at work who use it seem to like it. You can drag and drop files from your computer to the site, and they can then drag the files they want to their computers.

Dropbox is free. You can share a folder with friends. They could then download any pictures they want.

I use google picasa on the computer and picasa web. The app on the computer will do the tedious work uploading. You don't have to sit and watch it. Then you can share the albums with your friends. They can decide which ones they will save. And it will give you a bit of peace of mind knowing there is now an extra backup. I have 14gb online with google.

Unless you have fairly fast upstream service, uploading over 1500 photos could take bloody ages.
You do want them to be full resolution. Some of my digital photos are over 10 megabytes. All are over 5.
Also consider that some of the friends may not have internet service fast enough to download the photos.

Go with the thumb drives.

i have dropbox. it is really nice but you only get 2gb for free. unless you refer people and you get 500mb per referral up to 18GB free. $9.99 per month gets you 100gb. I'm just gonna stick with the 2gb.

I took 90% of the photos with my digital camera. 4-5mb each I think. I just tested my DL/UL speeds. 25.16 Mbps on the download. 3.80 Mbps on the upload. on wireless.

I just gave all my DVD's away bout 2 months ago. while I was selling stuff to move. "hmmm nah i wont need these" garage sell $1.00 per pack

it's pretty much between thumb drives or DVD now. I can buy DVDs cheaper than thumb drives.
