Adjustables Question

Are they really that big a deal? Do they have a wide adjustable range to make a difference or is it more gimmicky than practical?

Oh darn, I posted in the wrong place, can someone kick it over to the Safety Razor forum?

See my sig , in my Slim/Fatboy comparison there's some piccies of what changing the number on adjustables does.

So yes it does make a difference.

Some people adjust between passes, others just find the setting they like and leave it at that :001_smile

I have several Gillette adjustable razors. The adjustment is no gimmick; dialing it up will definitely result in a more aggressive shave. If you haven't used one, my recommendation would be to start in the 2-4 range to see how it goes.

Good luck.

The very fact that you asked this question already means you're on the slippery ARAS slope. It doesn't matter what anyone here says, and even if it did it wouldn't matter because we're all enablers anyway.

Give in. You're going to buy a Slim or Fatboy. You're already looking in the Mall, and are probably just about ready to post a WTB. Next, you'll start perusing the Ebay listings. My prediction: By this time next week you'll have already bought at least one and maybe two. Don't feel bad. We've all been through it.

I think the best reason to own an adjustable is that they are the heaviest of the Gillette razors and thus they give the smoothest shave. By this I mean that you'll feel the blade the least as you shave.

OMG! I already have three razors with two more on the way! And I've been getting the shakes trying not to order more  I want to wait for some adjustables to come up for sale.

I started with adjustable DEs cause I didn't know what type of aggressiveness I needed. This is a good tool. Later I bought, am am still buying, non-adjustables without regard to aggressiveness. I really think that the bottom line is your experience level and technique with a DE or str8 for that matter. Haven't tried slants tho, toooo scarry.:w00t:

Me too. My first DE was an adjustable.

I will also use it when I try out a new, sharper brand of blade because I can start on a lower setting (maybe not all the way down to '1' like when I took my first DE shaves) and work up to that blade's comfortable yet effective setting.
