Adjustable users - Need Advise

I started with a EJ89L and then purchased a 1964 slim. I really enjoy the slim. I get a more comfortable shave being able to go a little more aggressive at first then dialing back to finish up.

My question is this. Is there a modern version of the adjustable that would improve on the slim at all. If so, what are you using that you really like. Thanks in advance.

I have a Merkur Mergress (It's a Merkur Progress with a metal adjustment knob). The Progress is a great razor but I can't say it's better than my timeless Gillette adjustables. That's why I have both.

For the price? No.

My slim was $20 shipped, in nice shape (no brassing, but not mint). It gives me GREAT shaves.

My Super Adjustable was $45, but its mint, has original case, original blade dispenser AND the original blade coupon. I'd pay it again for this razor, well worth it! The slim was bought to save the SA from too much use ;)

Both are made better, IMO, than the Merkur.

I also have a rough Fatboy that is going to see a Krona replate sometime.

I seem to prefer the domed head of the Progress over the flatter profile of the Slim. That's the only modern one I have tried. It is comparable to the Fatboy, in weight, length and head shape, and I like it about the same as said Fat Boy.

I have a Fatboy and a Mergress, have never used a Slim or a Super but I want to try them. Between the FB the Mergress I'm not sure which I'd declare better, I don't think they are mutually exclusive. it's nice to have both to be able to change it up a little. Life is short, try'em all!

It's probably true to say that for some people the Slim is better than a Progress, Futur or whatever, but for others it'll be the other way round. But that's not because one is better designed or made than the another, just people's different tastes, beard types etc. If you really like the Slim I'd stick with it and, if you feel the urge to buy another razor, try something completely different -- an old OC or a slant, maybe.

I have a SA, slim, fatboy, progress, and had a futur. When I first got the progress, I thought it was going to be my favorite razor, but after using it a while, I still prefer my vintage gillettes. The futur was actually gave a better shave, but the grip-less handle was problematic for me along with a big fat head that didn't shave well under my nose. I haven't found anything to surpass the gillette adjustables, except for maybe a New.

I have and use both a slim and a progress 510. my preference? probable the progress but it's close.

I get a great shave from each of them and would be happy to settle on either one as my 'only one razor on the desert island' style questions we see so often.

The only new adjustables are made by Merkur. Merkur has terrible fit/finish, QC, and just overall quality IMO. I recommend to stick with the vintages.

I use a Slim, Fatboys, and a Merkur Futur. I get BBS with all three, but I find that they require a different touch. Of the three, I'd say the Slim is the easiest to use, I get the best shave with the Futur, and I have the best time with the Fatboys. So, go figure.

BTW - my Futur has great fit and finish, but I've read a lot of posts indicating that I may have just gotten lucky.

I have a the "Modern" version of the slim adjustable... the black handle super adjustable. I love it and agree with you on being able to dial it in. Any particular reason you want a modern (New?) one? The vintage stuff is great!
