Adjustable tune ups

On a whim I thought I’d try out a replated fat boy that I got when I first joined from B&B ( via BST, it was sitting around lost in a drawer ) as a swap out from the Black Beauty I’d been using. To my surprise the fat boy just feels like a completely different razor in aggressiveness.

With the BB, I get pretty harsh shaves beyond 4 if I am not careful. And the Fatboy I feel like 6-7 is barely shaving.

The quarter turn on the BB is really tight sometimes and / or even opening the TTO is sometimes a bit stuck ( So I sometimes use a towel ).

Conversely I would say the fatboy @ 3, staring carefully at the gap, the gap seems to get narrower on one side on one edge just a tad .

What I am wondering is perhaps the fatboy is a bit under tuned or bent and/or perhaps the black beauty is a bit out of wack /not closing properly.

Pondering this I was thinking the simplest approach is to mail both of these to someone who knows what they are doing, cleaning / resetting the gaps to where they should be and/ or fixing whatever needs fixing.

I was thinking of ATT ( perhaps replating the BB ( it is in good shape visually to be honest, but it is more of a sentimental birthday razor more than something monetary)) but perhaps there are “ tune up” specialists that might be recommended separate from replating specialists ?

Recommendations super appreciated here, oh wise ones!!

I recently won a Gillette Slim on a PIF who's gap is larger on one side compared to the other. I would also love to know the answer to this question. The only place I know that does this kind of work is Razor Emporium. But I'm sure there must be others. My plan is to send it for a tune up as soon as I start working again.

If it's like that on both sides we can usually suspect a bent T-bar. Pretty easily fixed without disassembly.

Thanks. Like I said the blade gap is larger on one side of the razor compared to the other. Where can I find instructions if I wanted to attempt this fix.

Click the link there, get Capt Murphy's take on it.

Or you could try a forum search of "bent t bar"
