Adjustable razors.

Hi, I have been thinking of buying an adjustable safety razor but I don't want to get a Merkur.

Are there any other options out there?
please let me know

For a new one? Not so sure you'll find anything there... but if you're willing to venture into the vintage razors, Gillettes are fantastic - I own both a Gillette Slim and Fatboy and was initially very hesitant to try using a razor made over 50 years ago and used by others. These are my favorite razors now, bar none :001_smile

Vintage gillette slim or super adjustable. You can find replated versions occasionally for less money than futur or progress razors (krona kruiser), and they are great to use. I've had good luck buying used versions on the bay in the past, but haven't tried to buy anything lately.

I have two Parker 22R's I use for travel and they are great. I have had them for four years and never had a problem with either one. The Parker 22R is durable and gives a great shave. I can always get a BBS when I use a Merkur blade with this razor. For some reason the sharp blades like Feather don't work well with this razor. It is not adjustable but is quite aggressive.

Thanks for the info. Is it adjustable though?

You said you don't want a Merkur but I like my Merkur Progress SH. I use it about once a week and it gives a very nice shave, but not as close as the Merkur Vision or Merkur Futur. I have a Merkur Mergress LH on order.

Thanks , sounds very good. Can I sanitize it though?
Easily, some use Barbicide, Alcohol or scrubbing bubbles. For me I use a long soak in near boiling water and dish soap, I'm not dead yet so it must work. If money isn't a problem I reccomend a Toggle.

A spray with Lysol will kill anything (10 minutes) but won't hurt the plating in any way. Then a good soak in dish soap and water, followed by a toothbrush and toothpaste.

my preferred adjustables in order of shave result are (all of them give me a good/great shave):

Progress 510
slim
futur (very low setting for best results in fact I usually only use it on setting 1)
fatboy/toggle (these tend to shave the same for me but using a toggle is a special experience)

in terms of looks or fun to use I would change the order a bit.

I do have a couple of black beauties (regular and long-handled) but I haven't used them as I presumed they'd shave like a slim.

go the 510 if you want new or a slim if you want vintage - better yet get both, and a futur - you will not regret it.

Fatboy is nice.. I now want a slim. My Merkur Progress is very nice as well. Haven't tried the Futur yet.

WTB: SLIM
