Addicted to lip balm?

It's crazy - I use ASB and moisturizer, yet I still feel like I need lip balm. Does this happen to anyone else?

Of course? The skin of your lips is extremely thin compared to that of your face, so it's the first to lose moisture. I don't use ASB but I moisturize my eye area, face, and lips. I can't leave out any of those or my face just doesn't feel right. It also works the other way around--if my face is dry and I only apply lip balm, it makes my face feel awful by comparison.

Which lip balm do you like?

I'm not addicted, but I always notice I need it most when I don't have it. I really like three products I heard about here:

1: Burt's Bees Beeswax Balm

2: Jack Black Lip Balm

3: Rose & Mint Lip Balm (in a tin from Lee's Razors)

I carry one of these whenever I go out, have one at my desk and one next to my bed.

In Minnesota lip balm is an absolute necessity in the winter months. After years of trying every brand I could get my hands on (some more than once), there is only one that i find immediately soothing and healing in the long term. Burt's Bees Beeswax Lip Balm. Though it's a bit more expensive than some brands, it's well worth it because you needn't apply it as much.

One of the keys to overuse of lip balm or being 'addicted' is using good tasting balm. If it tastes good, ppl tend to lick their lips more than they would normally just for the taste. The more you lick your lips the more dry they become. You will be better off using a balm that you don't actually like or one that you are aware of. If it's heavy on your lips you tend to want to lick it off.

I've been using lip balm for years and can't live without it (especially during the winter!)

I'm now using Blistex Mint Lip Balm which works nicely (plus it's only $1 at Walmart!).

I've also tried Carmex which was recommended by a friend, but I don't like lip balms that are medicine-y, if you know what I mean. It does work well, and like Sue says it won't make you want to lick your lips....well not for me at least!

I find myself using lip balm quite often, also. Personally I just use normal chap stick. My lips get really chapped during winter, and I'm a trumpet player so that's a bad thing and if I'm not careful, the bottom one will split and bleed.

When I was overseas with the military back in 1967, we had this one guy who used chap stick constantly. This guy would go to the BX and buy the stuff in the display box. He'd put it all over his lips and around his mouth, under his nose, and even on the inside of his lips. If he didn't use the stuff like that he'd break out in a rash all over his lip area.

We thought he was nuts, but now that I've seen this post, I guess there really is something to it. Interesting.

I was never really impressed with Burt's Bees over plain chap-stick personally but its been years since I've used it.

Chicken Butt is pretty good but hard to find. It was being sold in Walgreens for a while.

Currently I'm using Nivea found just about anywhere.
I especially like the cap design that is a little more secure in the pocket.
Their site mentions a 'no shine' men's lip balm but I haven't seen it for sale yet.

The absolute best stuff I've used was actually from Philosophy :blushing: about 8 years ago. It was in a tube kind of like neosporin and looked about like vaseline but made you want to touch your lips the way a BBS shave makes you rub your chin.
They don't make it anymore, and it was upwards of $12 for the tube, but I was working in the cold at night and it had exceptional reviews on drugstore.com so I had to try it.
