What's new

ACtober (used to be October) is for AC Platform Razors | Version 1 | 2022

ACtober 19:
RazoRock Hawk V2
Feather Pro (1)
Palmolive Lather
RazoRock Bruce brush
Clubman Whiskey Woods

I bought a Silver Hawk v2 a few weeks ago when I got an email from Italian Barber for a flash sale. Not a bad deal, 20 bucks. I would have preferred the green or blue one, but a deal is a deal. There's definitely a difference in face feel with an aluminum vs stainless steel razor, but I did buy this as a travel razor. AC blade goodness when I travel, and no stress if it gets lost or forgotten.

Razor: Yaqi Excalibur
Blade: KAI Captain Protouch MG, 4th use
Brush: Semogue 620 Excelsior Boar Brush
Bowl: Captains Choice Heavyweight Copper Bowl
Preshave: Proraso Red Sandalwood Cream
Soap: Tcheon Fung Sing Kathmandu Puck
Aftershave: Shulton Old Spice (Imported From India). Aftershave
Balm: Proraso Red Sandalwood Balm
Additional Care: Wife Sniff Test = Er, You Are Not Going To Wear That Out In Public Are You?
Additional Care: Shave Tunes Courtesy Of A 1980's Remix Playlist

This weeks theme is long forgotten. Like many on here I have loads of soap that doesn't really get to see the light of day over my favourites. So this week I am starting from the back of the cupboard and working forwards.

Tcheon Fung Sing is a range of cheap soaps that I found. For the money they are a decent enough soap, I particularly like the scents.

PS: That a smaller tub of soap and not an enormous brush.

Last night’s luxury shave
RazoRock Hawk V3OC
Schick Proline P-series (6)
Damp washcloth aka “shave binky”
AP ShaveCo G5A 24mm synthetic brush
Pre-shave: no
Lather: Col Conk Unscented, face-lathered
Aftershave: Ulm Nom
Post-shave: hot shower
Post-shave: Neutrogena Hydro Boost gel cream

With my soap “puck” or “halo” cleaned and a different brush used, face lathering felt much better. With that auspicious start, I ran my razor under cold water and got down to it.

Shallow ATG for two passes and I was pretty much done. Upper lip a bit raw from my trying to get everything all at once and a weeper re-opened on my right sideburn, but it was an improvement all the same. Intentionally didn’t try for a single pass and that helped me focus on a light touch more often.

Ron R

I survived a lathey foreman
SE SOTD, Friday, ACtober 21st 2022.

Razor : Yaqi Excalibur 50mm with a Yaqi polished handle - MFG 2021> excellent tame mid range, interesting clamping design, small razor head parts, affordable. I seem to really enjoy this razor a lot with 95%> close comfortable shaves. Daily driver potential for a lot of folks IMO.
Blade : Schick P30 50mm - Sharp & smooth + reasonable longevity for a AC blade.
Soap : Ogallala Bayrum & sandal wood, nice Bayrum scent with excellent lather qualities.
Brush : Yaqi "Black marbel" 24mm tuxedo knot, 1st Yaqi brush that got me interested in this line of great brushes years ago, excellent lather generator, heavenly cloud like soft tips, nice splay scrubber + excellent lather painter.
Pre shave : (Dedicated Cashmere synthetic)Brush wash whole face with CeraVe hand bar cleanser with a dollop of clear Aloe Vera on the cleaned beard area.
Prep : Cold water rinse after each pass of 2 + pickups. WTG + ATG + pickups.
Post shave : Witch hazel beard cleanse + Ogallala Bayrum & sandalwood:001_wub: + a dollop of CeraVe moisturizing. lotion(scentless).
Results :CCS,DFS,BBs + no irritation + no weepers=:a17: Excellent shave with my Yaqi Excalibur with a Schick Pro 30 blade.

The X1 is a superb AC platform safety razor.

My inbound Vector Titanium was supposed to be delivered yesterday, but it wasn't. Apparently it's stuck somewhere between here and Atlanta or something. The post office says it's delayed and offers no anticipated delivery date. That doesn't sound good to me, but I will still be expecting it tomorrow.

Not holding my breath expecting it.

The Vector did leave the Atlanta Network Distribution Center Friday evening for what that's worth. I've not seen any package delayed between there and here before this one. Possibly it's here in town but not scanned or something like that.

Notes on today's shave are here.

Happy shaves,

Jim

Monday's shave...

The excellent X1. ⬆️

Up next?

10-24-22.Vector.Titanium.New.Side.640.JPG

Next will be the newly arrived Vector Titanium. The head is even narrower than my slightly off photo shows.

I watched the company's video. What's up with squeezing the head to install the handle? Is that necessary? I don't have a blade in the razor, but, just messing around I see no reason to squeeze the head. Is there something I'm missing.

(The handle doesn't appeal to me at all but I knew that going into the purchase. An 11 mm in diameter handle is not in my wheelhouse.)

Happy shaves,

Jim

Congratulations Jim!

Don't think that I've ever had to squeeze the head on my Vectors? Do be careful, though, when screwing the handle onto the head.

Handles I prefer on the Vectors:
Doug's GTC 25g
Doug’s GTS 25g
TiBam Antique
Timeless Spiral TRH6 Ti
Timeless Crown TRH8 Ti
TiBam New York

My preferred handle dimensions are 80mm long x 14mm to 15mm in diameter.

Have fun! :)
