Active Duty/Reservists/Veterans – Questions for all

Most of the time I was on a ship so I didn't have too much trouble in that regard (I usually had a full shave kit, including strop and stone, and electric shears to cut my hair) but the few times I was deployed for ground ops it was disposables, cans, lotion, powder, and a cubic butt-ton of baby wipes. Baby wipes are the general purpose lifesaver of all field ops in my opinion (and that includes hunting).

In country wet shaving was easy.

During a deployment I would use an electric razor due to lack of water/ease.

I haven't gone out in the field since starting wet shaving, but I was planning on using Arko, a travel brush, and a 3 piece razor with blades that would fit in a larger pill bottle.

Couple cans of Gillette Gel shave cream
Stack of carts, removed from their packaging
Set of electric clippers. No need for guards. I take it to the bone anyway.

There will always be a power source to shave your head w/ clippers.

Hope like hell you come across an AFEES trailer to stock up on cream and carts as you will probly see them before you get care pkgs from home.

I have also seen where guys ran out of carts and end up having to buy a razor just to get the 3 carts it comes with. Then end up going home w/ 4-5 new unused razors.

I had to go look at my old packing lists to see what I used. While in the army I was still using my Gillette mach 3 with a travel size can of barbasol. I also had a extra pack of 4 blades just in case. That was my standard kit for 8 years including my deployment in 2008.

Oldschool: No, there is not always a power source, but I am not concerned with clipping my hair. I have never seen an AAFES trailer or a care package during an FTX but thanks for the thoughts.

Demaskee: I admire your commitment!

Infernal: Concur with the baby wipes 100%

Still just curious to see what people are packing in their rucksack. I always used cartridges in country, with a few disposables in my ruck. I have still never used a DE, so I was interested to see if anyone was using them in the field.

Any takers on the Bold? I might give it a try and see if maybe it is worth a field test!

Only been wet-shaving for about 2 months now and I won't be out in the field anytime soon (I shine a seat with my *** these days), but if I did, I'd resort to disposables and something from a can.

As a combat engineer, and having built a few FOBs in a few different countries, i am qualified to say there will always be electric. Unless you are on muleback clearing a countryside, there will always be electric. Especially these days of satellite uplinks and keeping the bricks charged. From Honduras to the middle east i assure you there will be juice. But that isnt what you are concerned about.

As for the dry stuff, it sounds like it is an alcohol based type that evaporates when exposed to air. I would be scared to practically dry shave. Although i have set up plenty shower/shave tents with and without hot water, i would rather wet shave cold out of my canteen cup and rinse with the grungy water than try that stuff. Looks like napalm in a tube. I do understand that we have to keep a tight shave to ensure a good mask seal in the event of a chemical environment, i would trust canned foam and a crtridge. In 22 yrs of doin this, i have never seen replacement DE blades out in the field, mostly because they are too hard to find replacements if you run out and the carts are much easier and quicker to handle.

I go with Arko, a travel brush, a tech, and I heat the water using an MRE heater and a canteen cup (if I have time that is). Then I usually use a baby wipe as aftershave, not the best, but better than nothing.
