Hey everybody! I'm fairly certain I'm asking a Question/Questions that has been answered in the past, so I apologize in advanced
With that out of the way. Recently I have started putting together some kit for SR shaving, I have a Tony Miller leather strop coming this week as well as materials to make some balsa strops as that seems to be the best method of maintaining a sharp edge. So now the only thing left is the Straight Razor, I actually bought an entry level DOVO from Razor Emporium not too long ago that claimed to be "Shave Ready" However, after a couple of shaves with it I don't really think it was as it pulled and tugged like crazy. No dirt on Razor Emporium though as it definitely could have been (probably was) my technique, and the content they provide is very helpful.
Anyway, from what I have gathered on this forum and others is that a nice vintage razor with a Shave Ready edge from a trustworthy Honemeister is to be the best way of getting into SR shaving. Ideally something under or around $100 as I'm sure my shaving technique needs some work, and if/when it needs honing not too much is on the line. I can move onto the fancy razors when I get the basics down. What's a good way to go about getting a razor like this? I've searched through some of the vendors on the Honemeister thread and they have some good offerings (although a bit pricey). And I scour Ebay looking at razors, I know the term "Shave Ready" is thrown around pretty loosely on there, but can you get a proper shave ready razor from the old Ebay? I've seen some listings that seem trustworthy and provide nice pictures and descriptions as well as how and with what the razor was honed, I'm assuming these are probably a safe bet. Any feedback and/or recommendations are greatly appreciated, I look forward to hearing from you all!
