Today for the first time I achieved an edge on an Essex 5/8 that I was really pleased with. It passed the HHT a couple of times and gave me BBS in two passes.
The feeling is truly magic!!
I've been fooling around with honing for a bit now and receiving a lot of good advice and support from members here.
My results were consistenly improving and I was getting edges I could shave with, but I knew they weren't quite "there" yet.
Then in a trade with Chasmo, I received a couple of straights which he'd honed himself, and these showed me what a good edge really was!
It had already been emphasized to me the fundamental importance of setting a good bevel, and Chasmo's edges inspired me to put more effort into the finish as well.
The result has astonished me- seeing a hair being sliced under its own weight for the first time, then effortless BBS on neck and chin (which has never happened with any DE, SE or shavette) is just making me go WOW!!
So thanks for all the help so far guys.
Any comments or suggestions about where to go from here would be greatly appreciated
