A Wonderful World Of Smell!

As someone who has owned probably less than half a dozen aftershave/colognes, over the past 25 Years, my recent foray into DE shaving has bought on an adventure into the world of smell!

In part thanks to this forum, I’ve tried and tested a range of fragrances that have so far provided a really enjoyable experience. On balance, I’m leaning at the moment towards exploring more traditional fragrances; something with a bit of history that smells different to more modern trends (no doubt a reaction to hitting my 40’s)

So far I’ve tried (with my pathetic attempts at my own descriptions):

Pinaud Clubman: Who couldn’t at least try this having spent any time on this forum! I like it, though having since tried a few more fragrances, I don’t see this becoming a regular for me. I like the powdery dry lingering smell, which is comforting

4711: My intial reaction on smelling it from the bottle was ‘what have I done’? But I really love this now. I use it after a shower, just to enjoy the smell for that brief period. Fresh citrus heaven!

Alt Innsbruck: This was a real eye opener and a really unique fragrance to me. Smells a bit like a dentists mouth wash at first, then I get this lovely (so they tell me) dry sweet tobacco flower smell, with a hint of cream soda! Menthol kick is delayed and icey.

Speick Natural (sample): Nice light uplifting summery fragrance. Quite feminine, but I don’t care! It reminds of Melon Tic Tacs. Can anyone tell me if the Speick Men is a very different smell?

TOBS Jermyn Street (sample): Considering this as a full bottle purchase. Can’t really describe it to myself, but it’s uplifting and on the boiled sweet side. Quite a nice Office scent, in my view.

TOBS Sandalwood: Had to buy a bottle of this. Before I sampled this, I had no idea what Sandalwood smelled like, until I opened the sample bottle and was hit with the scent of those little shops that sell assorted gifts and candles and the type of thing you only buy on Holiday. Smells great to me!

TOBS St James (sample): Not keen, a bit too sickly sweet for me.

Under the guise of researching further fragrances for Christmas, I’ve ordered and am awaiting some samples of the following:

Musgo Real No.3 (Spiced Citrus)
TOBS Shaving Shop
TOBS Mr Taylor

I’ve also blind bought a bottle of Atkinson’s Gold Medal, as it was in a clearance sale! I’m looking forward to trying it! And a few more, perhaps..
