A truly fragrance-free balm for sensitive skin?

Hi all. This is my first post! I've been using a brush and shaving soap for a couple of years but only started using a DE blade razor less that a week ago - reasonable success so far... I have dry skin and always use Aveda moisturizing lotion for sensitive skin on my face after shaving. I've always ignored my neck. After reading lots of stuff on B&B etc I decided I needed a balm for my neck. I dislike anything with any fragrance and like to keep smelling the faint whiff of my sandalwood soap. I bought a jar of the Nivea after shave balm for sensitive skin (fragrance free). I used it once - it caused an unpleasant burning sensation on my neck and I could definitely smell it! So... considering that this balm is considered innocuous, I was wondering if anyone had suggestions for what else I could try - or maybe I'll just use the Aveda on my neck!

the best ASB i've used is from the Gentlemen's Refinery. They make an outstanding unscented ASB, but it's pricey @ $40.

Saint Charles Shave makes great AS milks and Sue says if you ask, she'll make them unscented. It's also incredibly affordable and loaded with the stuff you want...aloe vera, witch hazel, etc.

AOS (Art of Shaving) unscented after shave balm is very good, it is a little costly but you only need a really small amount-dime sized on average and it last forever.

Try Clinique Post Shave Healer. It's fragrance free, non-irritating, and definately worth a shot.

+1 on Gentlemen's Refinery. It's worth the price. A little goes a long way, and shipping is free. I've tried so many a/s for my super sensitive (to chemicals) skin it's ridicuous, and this is my favorite. Be sure you get the Unscented.

Hi Kevin,

Welcome to B&B. I like John Michael Kohler ASB. It is pretty reasonably priced, considering it is nearly three times larger than Nivea. I also find it to be milder and more scent free. I even use it over the top of my splash after it dries. I wrote a review on it here.

Hi all, thanks for your replies - much appreciated. Of all the choices suggested, I managed to find the Art of Shaving unscented balm, and I like it very much. It is truly unscented, a little goes a very long way, and it works well. So, I'm happy with that. Now I just need to figure out how to shave my neck...!

i wouldn't say it is smell neutral, but nothing in the Aveda after shave balm is strictly there for smell. it does wonders for my newish techniques and the ravages subjected upon my face. give it a shot.

Bigelow's #1200 ASB (at Bath and Body Works) is unscented ... at $15 for a 100ml bottle, its more expensive than their scented balms, but well worth it.

A little bit goes a long way. I just started on my second bottle, and I used the first one for close to a year. I decided early on that this was going to have a prime spot in my rotation.

The other unscented balm I have is Nivea. Its good, its cheap, but I still prefer the Bigelow's most of the time.

Another vote for this, I've used it for the past 3 years and it is great stuff.
Very light on the skin, unscented and doesn't leave my sking greasy or oily.
