A Suribachi bowl for Bowl-Lathering

Someone brought these up a few months back. I agree that it looks perfect for lathering in to me. I do believe some people suspected it may damage brush hairs though. I'm not sure if anyone ever tested that or if it was just some people's suspicions.
If I were in the market for a lathering bowl, I'd buy one of these for sure.

If you have a Japanese grocer nearby, suspect it would be easy to find one there. Just might not have the selection that going online would provide.
It's easy to find this kind of Suribachi in Japanese family's kitchen.
We grind sesames, raw sticky asian potatoes or so using a wooden bar.
I don't think the wooden bar gets obviously shorter by grinding with a Suribachi, but I'm afraid of it damaging my brush.
In addition, actually my mother has one but she doesn't want me to use for lathering.

Hmmm...it never occurred to me that it might damage the hair - very good point. I guess I'll have to judge that for myself when it arrives, but I would never take any chances with my brushes. I bought it on line from starwest-botannicals.com. Cost me $23.
The grinding place doesn't have too sharp edges, just without the glossy coating, so face-lathering on hair after two or three days could be more aggressive for the brush.

I'm also curious about how this works for building lather. Anecdotaly, I broke in a slightly skritchy two band brush on the back of a Lego plate once, and the tips got softer after an hour or so of working them on the plate. This might possibly work the same magic for some brushes with just a little more skritch than you care fore.
