A Sad Farewell

Well gentlemen and women, it saddens me to say that I will be leaving the community of wet shavers. Iv had alot of fun trying to master the art of "shaving like a man" but my skin just doesn't sit well with razors. Iv tried cartridge razors, safety razors, and finally to the leap to a straight razor. Im tired of waking up with blood on my pillow from a sore neck or going out in public looking like I lost a fight with my razor. Iv had horrible redness which later turns into bumps or puss filled problems. Iv watched every video possible and even consulted with a few barbers in the process. Iv taken time off to let my face heal and still gotten the same results. So unfortunately im going to have to go back to an electric razor. So to all that have helped since iv been here i just wanna say thanks and happy shaving.

Sincerely,

Jerrell B. aka Mad Man12

Sorry to hear of your problem, Jerrell. By chance have you consulted a dermatologist? In any event, best of luck.

Jim

Too bad, I'm a month in and I love it, have you tried bump patrol or skin tight? That might help out a bit! If you have to go then, you gotta do what's best for your face.

Sorry to hear that it didn't work out. Well...if you're going to go electric, I would do some research and get the very best one currently available.

I had a fit with my skin for a couple of months before I realized it was a reaction to my shave soap. Maybe it's not the razor or your technique, maybe you're just having an unfortunate reaction to some product that you're using. At any rate, good luck finding something that works.

Funny, but I've tried and tried in the past to like an electric razor. Bought of the best ones made. Every time I used one my face felt like it was on fire afterwards and I got worse shave than I ever get from a DE or cartridge razor. If electric razors were all there was, I'd probably grow a beard.

Shame you couldn't stick around a little longer to see if it's truely not for you. I guess you know what's best for you haha

Looking at your post count and join date it's impressive that you tried it all. Try to remember that it takes time to master any component of it, and it seems to me that you've only sampled it. I hope you find something that works for you.

Sorry it didn't work out for you, MM. If I may ever so humbly submit, I'm still learning stuff over 3 years in. Best wishes if you decide to bounce. You'll be welcome if you decide to stay.

Sorry to see you go mate. From one Mad Man to another.

If it's any consolation, after YEARS of redness from crappy electrics the Braun 7 Series was the one that proved most comfortable and most effective. It still gets a run these days on days when I absolutely, positively have to be at the office at dawn (or I've slept in).

Good luck in your future endeavours.

Wait, what happened to this?

I admit when im wrong and I WAS COMPLETELY WRONG. Just finished a shave after trying shave soap again. It takes off so much more hair then the shave cream does and leave my face smooth and firm. I blame myself for lacking the proper technique. ROCK ON SHAVE SOAP!

Now that was with the DE, right? I think you got overzealous going for a straight so soon. It took me MONTHS to learn a DE, and I didn't try a straight until a few YEARS later. My face still doesn't get along with a straight.

I'd stick with the DE some more. Maybe try a non-lathering, non-foaming cream. Cremo Cream is great stuff and relatively inexpensive. Aveda's new shave cream is excellent, and they make a travel size that's not too expensive (and they're very easy with returns if you don't like it). The benefits of these products is that you can see better what you're shaving, and they don't dry out your skin as much as soap or foaming gel.

I received a Norelco shaver as a Christmas gift a few years back. It wasn't a top-end model, but it also wasn't cheap. I used it for two weeks, trying to let my skin adjust to the new shaver, but it still irritated the heck out of me, took longer, and didn't shave nearly as close as the Fusion Power that I was using at the time.

I suppose there may be a better electric razor out there for me, but after my experience with a $150 shaver with 200+ 5-star reviews on Amazon, I was completely turned off from ever using one again. Thankfully, Grandma didn't mind my honesty when I told her it wasn't for me and wanted to return it.

If only I'd gotten into DE shaving a few years ago, I would have traded it in for a Futur and a nice brush. :biggrin1:

Anyways, this just shows that everyone's mileage varies. It's sad to see someone leave, but it's just a fact of life that blade shaving simply won't work for some people, the same as electric doesn't work for me.
