A question on aftershave and pre electric shave - are they the same?

Gentlemen, I was looking at a vintage bottle of Cussons Imperial Leather aftershave when I notice the rear of the label as shown below which states that the lotion is suitable for use after shaving with soap or cream or before electric shaving. My question is this: is aftershave and pre electric shave interchangeable? I often see vintage pre electric shave at bargain prices but ignore it as I assume it is not suitable as regular aftershave. Am I missing a potential bargain? Do they smell the same? Has anyone tried pre electric shave as an aftershave? So many questions.....

My Speick aftershave and Speck electric pre-shave bottles are almost indistinguishable to me, so I've occasionally grabbed one when expecting to use the other, and I can't say I've noticed much difference.

Pre-electrics are usually oilier than Standard aftershave. I wash my face after using them and then apply an aftershave.
