A Question for face latherers.

How long, or do you even, soak your brush before beginning the face lather ?

When I bowl lather, I typically let the brush soak in the bowl for about 5 minutes before beginning to build the lather.

Yesterday, I tried face lathering for the 2nd time. Smeared the stick on my face, picked up my brush, and noticed that I had not soaked it.

I dipped it in the water and forged ahead. It seemed to work out ok, but I was wondering if I should soak it.

thanks

Yup, I soak my brush, take a shower, take excess water out and lather... Same procedure then when I was using a bowl.

I face lather with cream and or soap and soak my brush for about 2 minutes using either.I may use more product than others though.

My brush soaks while I shower. I put on cream or rub the stick on my face and let that sit for a couple minutes before using the brush to face lather.

When I use a bristle brush (or mixed brush) I let it soak for at least 10 minutes (or a shower's worth) - when using a badger hair brush I really don't worry about it - I soak it or don't. I definitely notice the difference (between soaking or not) with the bristle/mixed; I notice no difference with badger.

it depends what mood i'm in. with some of my badgers, a quick rinse under the tap seems to do about the same as a soak. the only reason i soak a badger longer is if i really want to make sure the heat from the water goes all the way through the hairs. with a boar, the hair actually needs to absorb the water, so it should soak longer. i usually give mine 5 min or so.

I normally just place my brush in the sink and let it soak while the sink fills with hot water. When the sink is full, I just give it a squeeze and am good to go.

Same routine for both badger and boar brushes.

I usually soak my brush in hot water for around five (5) minutes while I wash my face, brush my teeth and prep my face with a very soft wash cloth. Then I gently shake-out the excess water out and load my brush from my shaving cup prior to building a great lather on my face :biggrin1:

I think you answered your own question: It worked so it is not needed. I soak mine for only a few seconds before I shave, water diffuses so fast that soaking for longer is not needed. I do make sure that it is completely wet though.

That is also the way I do it , works well for me.

To soak or not to soak? that is the question.

I've experimented both ways and found that either way doesn't make a difference for me.

I usually just put the brush in the sink after I shower when its filling while I grab my cream/soap and razor. Haven't noticed a difference.

For the record I use a commodore X2.

I don't soak it anymore; just a quick dip and add droplets of water when needed. I found the whole process easier to control that way.

I don't soak it. Just sloosh it around in the basin of water, sloosh it around on the soap and vigorously lather my face. I wet my face first so there is enough water to finish developing the lather. There is a certain amount of stimulating face brushing that I find satisfying and it really has nothing to do with the lather and the shave, more that I enjoy the scrub and it gets me in the mood to shave. I find lathering to be pretty simple and have a very brief routine for that.
