A prophecy of badger doom

Ah, interesting. I didn't know that... One thing is certain. At this pace he will soon need to rent a warehouse to put the excess of brushes, soaps and aftershaves that the companies will be sending him! :001_302:

He's also a Specialist in the use of safety razors.

I agree, sir... I have seen them too... The only conclusion to which i have arrived, is the concept of "lather" is far from being universal...
I tried really hard to wrap my head around 'dense cushion' thing often quoted here but ended up scratching my head what use it is.
I want better razor glide with enough slickness. There is no universal lather guide but I try to have a lather that isn't overly thin or too dense but drier. I don't spend lot of time making porn like lather. I aim for a wetter and more product in brush to get both slickness and glide. A thick paste rather than wispy peaks of dry fluff they show on Cella old man.

I agree, sir. I face lather, so that i can assess directly and in real time slickness. And slickness comes from water. I rather enjoy watching some extremely voluminous lathers in youtube, but only as part of the potential of the brush. I don't try to become the Cella man either. The razor gets clogged with an airy lather, faster than with a wet lather.

You should try £34 soap with a Chubby 3 badger.
Really? He use a dandy soap and a dandy Simpson to make a joke of lather? He need to watch some real lather making videos himself before introducing his dandy lather skills to noobs.
With a lass than dandy boar brush I can force even olive oil with some water and make thicker lather than the joke he made.

Thankfully at my age, my Thaters, Rooneys and Simpsons will long outlive me. I've had 3 synths: one I pif'd, one cleans the crumbs and dirt from my keyboard and the good one gets used maybe every other month. A good synth is great for saving money starting out, but none will never replace my favorite badgers.

His verdict (i skipped most of the video): "Here we are in front of an expensive little hand soap, which, though, attention, i could see as valid for straight razor. I can even feel dryness...It doesn't give voluminous lather. Maybe with the addition of water, it could be slick for straight razor, kamisori...For the love of God, Chubby 3 is full of lather, but as you can see, it's not a compact lather, it doesn't last, it doesn't last. It's a shame because the scent is noteworthy. It's not easy to produce a hard soap. The man who chooses a hard soap isn't exactly a beginner. It's a person who understands wetshaving. Who knows his stuff."

It's a crying shame I didn't turn on the subtitles :001_302:

The soap in question also failed miserably his famous "fingernail test". Where he scratches his cheek. The soap was coming off and he pointed it out. Normally, the soap should have resisted his fingernail scraping attempts.

Oh, i noticed in the introduction, another wetshaving maxim: "Today we put into a tough test this soap, because, as we know, hard soaps give their best, when used with silvertips, while on the contrary, today we will be using Chubby 3 best".

I always thought that silvertips were the least indicated brushes for hard soaps...

Fingernail test and silvertip best used on hard soaps?
I am afraid he lost the plot about wet shaving.

Yes, sir! It is his patented method of testing soaps, without actually shaving with them. The fingernails emulate the blade and through scratching himself, he assesses cushion and whether or not the soap stays on his face or not. Later, he added the "towel test", where he moves a towel up and down in front of his face, to see if the air circulation will make the lather dissipate. I think these have contributing in making him the 2nd biggest wetshaving celebrity in Italy, because nobody else in the world can review a soap without shaving, but he found the way!

I don't know if he lost the plot, but i know that now companies shower him with free products and he is very happy with that! Sometimes i wonder, if we others are doing it wrong... :lol1:

Back on the subject of badger brushes, I'm wondering if there are any super dense and stubby Silvertip something like a 24/48 knot?

Simpson probably has various such models. I see the Commodore X3 best is 24x46. It's not exactly silvertip, but it's like a silvertip with more backbone in the lower half. In "Super" hair, it's the real silvertip of Simpson, but i haven't searched their models.

I think everyone should get a "best" from Simpson, for the experience of getting some very interesting hair.

A Simpson best... Yikes!

I'm almost tempted to ask Tony Zhang to make me a custom knot but the only issue is I think they only deal in bulk purchases.

I'm not quite sure I'm ready to pay for a Simpson yet lol.

Happy shaves,

I know... But you wanted stubby and they are as stubby as they can get! :001_302:

Too true lol.

Chubby 1 in Super would be the brush. Indeed pricey little beast.

The issue isn't just the price it's getting a lemon or something I don't like.

I've very specific tastes and requirements eg, functionality above all else. I don't wish to pay $350 and later realise I prefer it 1mm lower or I want a 25mm not a 24mm knot.

Until I get a much better understanding of what I would prefer I'm happy to get more affordable brushes to test. The same with my DEs, sure I could get a timeless but if I didn't like it, that would be an absolute waste.

It took me nearly 5 months before I got the hang of the GC84 and nearly sold it. I rather not have a bad case of buyer's remorse especially for a very expensive and potentially short lived brush.

The prices for semogue, omega, Yaqi, Tony Zhang and Frank Shaving are so affordable that it allows me to experiment and try out great gear without having to worry that paid more than I should.

So far the journey has been great and being able to fool around and try new stuff is like Christmas everyday!

Happy shaves guys,

Mawashi
