What's new

A little help please

A couple of issues with my new waterman that I could use a little help with,
1. If the pen sits in my pocket for a few hours without use, upon using it she seems to almost write like a felt tip pen with an ever expanding line.
2. Again witha few hours of no use it happened once oly but I wound up with a puddle of ink on my fingers.
any new user tips for a new fountain pen owner?
thanks,
BK

1. Shirt pocket? Nib up?
2. Is the cartrtidge/convertor seated correctly? Where was the ink found?

New to you, or brand new from the manufacturer? Ink on your fingers from holding the pen? or just from taking the cap off?

If you can get some pictures of the issues it will help greatly.

UPDATE
A couple of issues with my new waterman that I could use a little help with,
1. If the pen sits in my pocket for a few hours without use, upon using it she seems to almost write like a felt tip pen with an ever expanding line. I found depending upon the paper that I'm using yields different results. Some paper must be more porous than other to give the absorbent felt tp feel while others are just fine.
2. Again witha few hours of no use it happened once oly but I wound up with a puddle of ink on my fingers. After a little more use I feel that I must have brushed my finger against the nib which in turn allowed ink to smear on my hand.

Thanks to you guys that reached out to help!

Yeah paper plays a big role. Try writing on something super absorbent like toilet paper and you'll see!

Paper makes a huge difference! You'll find that different inks do as well. Today I have a Parker Vac with vintage Quink permanent blue-black. This writes much drier than the Iroshizuki asa-gao that I just finished. The effect, independent of paper is a thinner line that dries faster.
