A job I can not do

I about wet my pants just watching this video.

My hat's off to the guy!

I'd like to do that (if the money was right).

I've actually watched those guys who abseil down high rise buildings cleaning the windows and though, hmm, that might be for me. I've done a bit of rock climbing and abseiling. heights don't bother me too much.

But then you have to contend with the Australian summer. The sun bouncing off the mirrored office windows would cook you. But... I'm pretty sure they earn good money. If any Aussie companies want to pay me to climb stuff let me know. It is a lot better than getting buried in stuff.

I used to rock climb, hang glide, skydive. I loved it.

Then one day while working with a friend putting a roof on a house, I came back after lunch break and I just could NOT deal with being up there anymore. That morning, no problemo, ever after that, I'm just not the same.

That's funny, I'm a little bit claustrophobic, and it came on me that suddenly.

For me, I watch that vid and think that would be a nice day at work. Working with your hands, outdoors, great view.

But I'm in a bit of a transitional phase in my life, and people keep telling me "you should go up and work in the mines for a little while. They'll take you, and it pays great money. But the thought of working under ground kind of freaks me out.

Everybody has something that presses their buttons.

When I worked in TV I had to go quite aways up on our Transmitter Tower. Never again. I became very religious right before I went up and right after I got down.

No thank you! Felt sick in the stomach just watching that one.

Hats off to the guy, I have trouble even getting up a ladder to change a light bulb.

Its a great video. I kept thinking he was at the top like three times, it just got crazier and crazier.

Someones gotta change the bulb
Turns out it takes two Engineers to change a light bulb.

Gets to top, realizes, "Damn! Brought a screw in bulb, but this is a bayonet fitting!" Climbs back down, forgot sandwich at the top!

I think you can probably get used to the height after a few trips, as long as the wind never picks up, but the thought of trying to keep steady after having climbed endlessly up ladders makes me want to feel dizzy all over again.

Wow, that is pretty insane. I think the most surprising part is how much of the climb is untethered. I know its a pain to clip and unclip, but one wrong step or a sudden strong wind and you are toast.

On a second note, this would be a dream job for base jumpers. Climb to the top, do your work, then jump!

I also think its supposed to be "guyed" tower

"If a storm is brewing, there's no quick way down."

Yes, there is.

After all of that, I wanted to see how the bulb was changed.

They should have a lighting unit with multiple stacked bulbs, so it's not necessary to go up when just one burns out.

I watched this with a knot in my stomach from the comfort of my safe desk at work. I'd love to know what this guy is paid (as stated above, its not enough).

There was an episode of Worlds Toughest Fixes where they replaced the antenna on top of the 1,999 foot KDLT tower.

Fridays are Fishtastic!
No way in hell. Inside the cage was bad enough, but the transition outside about killed me.
