Nope, not true...
I can surely bet that as a youth, you attended some local fair, where you bought a couple of ballons and some cotton candy.
About 15 minutes later, once that sugar kicked in, you excitedly waved to some friends from across the fairground, forgetting that that hand had been grasping those precious balloons, or some such minor calamity!
Tears welled up in your eyes as your balloons sailed up into the azure sky...
These guys are simply showing off with a camera strapped to their rig, as I contend that all of us, who as youth lost balloons at the fair, where also unwittingly participating in our own spaceshots!
My fellow space cadets, I salute you!
I love these videos. Sending something into space via balloon is on my bucket list. Maybe I should send my Merkur HD, then I will have a "Space Razor."

We ham radio operators have been doing this for years. Just only recently where cool technology is available, to most anyone off the shelf, and you get to see all this on the internet.
