Sept. (or as I'm currently calling it, "the month of the razor" ) is winding to a close. And so will be my rapidly building collection. Actually, not closing, just slowing way down on collecting I think. But in this last week I've grabbed up some pretty cool finds. I'm not done yet, and there are some in the mail, but I thought I'd throw up a pic of a few "less common" items that got here yesterday and today.
First, a 1947 (AFAIK) Milord. Calling it a '47, as it doesn't have a notched center bar as should a '48, and the area above the TTO is knurled, as on a Super Speed (the '46 was smooth there). Thing is, the blade tray follows the pattern of the notched Super Speeds, not of the '47 Un-notched Super Speeds I've managed to snag.
These pics are after the initial cleaning (when a tube of Maas gets here, I plan to try a very light polish to brighten the gold- if it's safe on the lacquer). It says it's safe on painted surfaces. There's already a lot of lacquer loss on the other door anyway, I manged to get a nice looking shot here though. This one got here yesterday.
Next up, a '30's Sheraton. Got here today. This one was billed as an Aristocrat, came in an Aristocrat gold box (beat up, pics after Maas arrives- with my '34 ish Aristocrat now comfy at home in it). No clean up yet on this one (ugh! It shows!!).
Also in today's mail, a pretty clean '53 President. Billed as a shiny Super Speed on eBay, I don't think the other bidders were fooled either. Price seems to be about right for the President (from what I can deduce). Again, these shots are pre-cleaning.
I know none of these is particularly rare, but certainly less common than much of what I've already collected. The President was the second most expensive I've bought so far, at $58 plus shipping. I do hope to add some rarer pieces in the future. Hey, I've only been at this a month, and already own over 30 razors, all but one vintage. I have the Single Ring coming from Canada, and what I'm pretty sure (or hope) is a basic model of the New Deluxe coming from England. And a few more I'm still watching closely...
Having a lot of fun with these. But it's Saturday night, about time for me to sign off and go see what other kind of fun I can dig up . Have a great night guys!
