A DE Razor that stands out

The Merkur slant bar. If you have not tried one - you really should. They are very smooth due to (I believe) the slicing action of the head. I use a Feather blade with no problems what so ever. I like the HD handle but there is also the barber pole handle for those with large hands.

I have a bunch of Gillettes and a couple other Merkurs - some of which are VERY good - but the slant bar is far superior.

Yea I have been meaning to try one, I currently are looking for a Slant through the WTB section, my main DE is a Fat Boy, and I want to try a few other razors see what I like.

right now it's only me & the Fat Boy which I love - i like the Progress but am leery about their QC - specifically blade alignment with the head - just something that would bug me personally - have ordered the 34C-HD with the hope of making that my primary razor - don't want to over use a 50 year old razor - i also have learned that it , the 34C would be a good starter razor for a newbie and so if it works out i'll get one for our daughter's boyfriend .

i don't think i'll be one of those B&Bers that rotate 10+ razors - 2 maybe 3 at the most - that slant may be the 3rd at some point.

Listen to the dreadpirate. He knows of what he speaks. The Slant has been the ONLY razor I've used for the past year. My fatboy, slim, superspeed(s), tech, Merkur HD, and super adjustable all just collect dust on the shelf. I have found my razor without a doubt. A slant with a fresh feather is perfection!

I have to say though, I tried to make nice with one, and got less than stellar results. I replaced it with a NEW and custom handle from Bob's, and it is just superior in every way. Don't neglect the NEW if you get a shot at one, and are having a hard time with the slant.

I have not yet tried any slant but I know the Merkur is one that is looked at highly favorably on this site. However, from what I read slants are not for everyone.

I hope you are referring to mountain air and spring water. I would hate to think that someone would prefer ocean breeze air and bottled water, when they are so clearly inferior!:biggrin1:

It really is a fine razor. I had opportunity to try one and hope to purchase own eventually. I doubt it completely replaces all of my others, but it will have a regular place in my rotation. :thumbup1:

After shaving with one for the last couple days I give it a 10

Close shaves with any razor blade I put in it

first I tried a Feather - no surprises there , all went well.

Then I used a Derby. I got a smooth shave with it.

So I will leave the Parker 91 in storage and remain a slant convert

I think there is a DE for everyone that feels superb. As the owner of a 37G for a few years now I know the slant is not really meant for me. Not that I can't get a decent shave out of it but it doesn't seem to add anything really. It doesn't shave very different from a 34C (HD) and I do not like the too short/too thick handle nor the weight distribution very much. An interesting concept though and I recommend everyone to try one.

Can't I just hold my normal razor at a funny angle and achieve the same result? :001_smile

FYI for everyone looking for a Slant...the Saint Sue PIF's have them. Check out the PIF forum for your chance to do a good thing AND win some awesome swag.

Well, kinda. An HD using the so called "Gillette Slide" is SIMILAR, but it's not the SAME. The slant also has a head geometry that for me at least, really controls the blade angle consistently. Unlike the rounded head of the HD that seems to have an infinite possibilities on the blade angle, the slant either cuts or it doesn't. There's really not much to getting the right angle. Then, throw in the slanted blade the slices instead of chops and you have a very different razor. No, not for everyone but everyone should at least try one. My only regret is that I didn't try one sooner.
