A curious vintage nine day set leather case

I got this recently at an antique store. It was full of utterly broken straights and I talked the owner into selling just the case to me. It is extremely soft leather, almost like deerskin but has been around a while. I soaked it good in Lexol and then put some of my straights in it to give a better idea for the picture. The top folds down over the straights and it rolls up but as you can see there is no leather thong to secure it. Picked up a leather shoelace very close to the same color today.

It just seems odd that it holds nine straights but maybe I haven't looked around enough - I thought it was always seven. Your thoughts?

Might not have been 7 day set case to begin with. Maybe it's just a storage roll....I made one for myself for 4 blades.

Maybe a Barber's roll? As a carpenter I must have 10 different hammers, so 9 razors for a barber sounds feasible.

Barbers or dealers roll would be my guess.

I like these things. I never actually use mine because I never take my razors anywhere. But I like them anyway. Leather + razors, can't miss.

I think it might have been made for something else, maybe. Like chisels, spanners or arts supplies? Looks great, though. I dig those old leather items. Lots of character.

Nice find captain.
Sounds like it could have been used for another purpose.
I have a couple of knife rolls (chef) made from canvas that would be similar.
