A CrOx conundrum

I just picked up a tub of .5 micron CrOx powder, and WOW, that's a lot more than I forsee ever using.

But, that is my problem.
How should I use it?

I have enough leather to make a hanging strop, and a leather bench strop.
I can also easily purchase balsa or basswood for a strop.

Which will give the best results?
Will any be trickier to use than another?
If I go the leather route, I have some Pink tooling leather as my regular strop(highly conditioned, works great) with a rough almost suedelike backside.
I also have a strip the same size of latigo, with a smoother, yet still rough back, that feels like there is a directional roughness, kind of like fish scales.
Should I sand the backside of my daily strop to smooth it, or apply just to the smooth side of the latigo?

Just dust it on, and work it in with the blade, or should I mix with neetsfoot oil, and brush on?
Any help would be great, as this is quite a bit different than I have done before.

I'm not sure where, but somewhere in the maze of posts, i remember reading that someone mixed it with neetsfoot oil and got excellent results on a paddle strop...

When i made a pasted balsa strop, i mixed it with mineral oil.

When i did one of my old hanging strops, i just rubbed the powder into the leather.

It does not take much, so use sparingly. You can always add if you are worried there is not enough there.

this is how i did my balsa one.

*note. when i made that balsa one. i was a little heavier thani liked and wiped it down some with some paper to remove excess.
