I have two collecting passions at the moment:
Filarmonica razors and Rooney brushes. The
Filly's are easier to obtain and are available on
various auction sites from reliable sellers as well
as B&B members. However, Rooney Heritage brushes
are little more difficult to track down at attractive prices.
I am a member of several forums and from time to
time I have posted WTB listings for these brushes. A
few months back I received a communication from someone
on a forum (or perhaps a FB page) saying that he had a friend
with some Rooney's to sell. I got the e-mail address and
negotiated a price. I sent the funds via PayPal...and waited
and waited and waited. When I had not heard from the seller
after two weeks, I did some extra digging...it turns out that
he had copied pics from someone else's posts. So, now I had
to make a claim on PayPal. Once I submitted the claim, the seller
started to contact me with excuses...my mother is ill, my dog died, etc.
He kept asking me to rescind my claim. Once you rescind a
claim on PayPal, you cannot make a new claim. It a took a few
months but eventually I got my money refunded on PayPal.
Lesson learned: 1) Be very wary. 2) Use Paypal with confidence.
