9/8 Extreme Smile Custom #1 of 2

This was done for a guy and based on those Japanese razors with the extreme smiles. Instead of being around 6/8 or so like the Japanese razors are, this one is 9/8 at the widest. A real monster of a razor and probably the hardest razor I've had to make because of the shape (I was nervous grinding the hollow the whole time!). The second will be the same razor basically but in Damascus with Silver Twill (Texalium) scales to contrast the Carbon Fiber scales of the O1 blade.

Wow! Beautiful.

I've always wondered how it is stropping with razors like this since the spine isn't flat.

That thing is absolutely stunning but I agree with azmark...stropping and touch up honing with unexperienced hands....shudder!

A lot of the guys are going to like this razor because it looks so good. I like it because of the craftsmanship, the technical precision, and... because it looks so good.

:w00t:

This is the kind of razor that makes me lost for words....

I can't even begin to imaging the kind of skills needed to make it.

Plus I want one. Bad.

Thanks everyone! Yeah, honing isn't as bad as I had expected. It's really no different from any other blade that needs a rolling X... and let's face it, I use a rolling X on most razors I hone nowadays! Stropping is actually surprisingly not bad.

I keep these things in mind when making a razor (comfort of honing/stropping) and this razor was good for me to see how it turned out on a blade like this. I of course wouldn't suggest this type of razor to a beginner, but for an experienced hone and strop user, it's nothing to worry about.

I'll definitely post the Damascus version when done and hopefully some shots of the two together!
