What's new

8/8+ WM Stenton & Son

Got this big guy today and couldn't wait to start on it. It's a little under 9/8 at the widest. This is the first huge stub tail I have ever had. Not going to take it to a mirror finish. Not sure how I'll finish it yet.

Before with the awesome scales.

That's really cool. Those scales and the nut had me laughing out loud! Don't you wonder what happened to the original scales and who made the replacements? Too bad these old classics can't tell us the stories of their travels.

I vote for re-using those scales. Re-shape them, thin them out, sand them down, etc etc, and use em!

Great blade!

Too late for the scales. They split when I was knocking the pin out of the pivot. They where cool, made of bamboo.

you will love it,that is a good and a rare razor. I have one myself a 10/8 its pre civil war and unsure who made them I have heard different tales that he did, and also he imported them either way they are good shavers. mine has horn scales with three pins to keep the blade from going through the scales. the only other one I've saw in person was exactly the same scales with the triangular three pins so I am guessing they were original. if you look under my posts you can see it I put a pic or two up shortly after I bought it.

Made some scales for this guy today. All I had besides the ghost jade was some neon green g10. Started out as 1/8", thinned them down to .095" to hopefully get them to flex a little when they are pinned.

Off the belt sander.

Wet sanded to 2.5k and buffed. They still need a little buffing on some rough spots. But I'm pretty happy with them so far.

Well I finished this one up a little bit ago. First time using the pre made triple stacked washers. They could have been initially finished better and cut cleaner but they polished up nicely. Was also worried that the G10 wouldn't flex around the massive tang on this beast, but they bowed perfectly after being thinned down.
