79 Puma Gold Scales

Hi,

After recently purchasing a puma gold I'm after any advise on what type of scales came with the 7/8 model. This razor was at some point rescaled with soft wood scales and an ivory/bone spacer. So far I have only been able to track down two pictures both with dark ebony type scales but both also of a different design. I am aware the 5/8 and 6/8 have yellow celluloid scales but any info on the 7/8 would be great. The plan is to try and get the razor back to as close to original as possible. So far it's only had 10 minutes of hand sanding with a low grit but the blade is in great shape with only a little pitting at the spine by the P and U. I did post this on another forum so sorry to anyone reading it again.

Wow nice find. The 6/8 are hard to come by. I'll bet the 7/8 are even rarer. I have a 78 model @ 5/8 and it has the traditional gold colored scales you mentioned. I have no idea what originally came with the 7/8 model but wouldn't be surprised if they were yellow too. Did the other 7/8 with the ebony scales have the Puma logo on the scales?

Are you planning on restoring the gold plating. About half the tang on mine is missing the plating. I haven't checked much to see if anyone can restore it. Quite a while back mycarver was looking in to doing some plating but don't know if he 's pursued it. I'm sure he'd do a bang up job. He does great work. If you find someone that will do it let me know. Keep us posted on your progress with lots of pictures.
