7 O'Clock Yellows

Pipskicks was kind enough to send me some yellow 7 O'clock blades. I've used 1 blade for 3 shaves now and I have to say all 3 shaves were great. I usually toss out my blade after 3 shaves no matter what. However, after today's shave, the blade still seemed as sharp as the first shave so I'm going to see how many shaves I can get out of a single blade. Depending on results, this could replace ASTRA SP as my go to blade.

The Astra and Gillette Sharp Edge blades are made at the same plant. I find them to be very similar, with the Gillettes being a touch sharper, and the Astras a little more forgiving. They are both top notch blades.

Makes sense. Those are better blades than ASTRA, IMHO, although I prefer others still.
(nothing forgiving in Astras than I can sense...)

I used to use the Yellows, but found SuperMax SP blades to deliver superior cutting with greater comfort. I did find the Yellows, for me, scraped my skin just a touch; not so with the SuperMax SP blades. These India-made blades are sweet as can be, and the cost about 47% less per hundred than Gillette 7 O'clock Yellows. Granted, each of us finds joy in different blades. If you have one that you cannot live without, invest, stock up, and enjoy shaving.

I made the mistake of using a Yellow in a Red Tip Super Speed. Too aggressive of a combination for my face. I might try them in one of my Techs, or my Star DE.

Tried one of these for the 1st time in about 6 months this morning. Had it in my EJ86 and had the roughest shave I've had in a long time. Sadly it's just not a good blade for me. My usual blade, the Astra SP, is much smoother.

The Yellows are great. I bought lots of them back when Connaught used to sell them in bulk for about 16 cents per blade. And like others of you, I find pretty much all the Russian and Indian Gillettes to be excellent, along with Russian Perma-sharp Supers and Nacets.

Shave #4 today on the same blade. Still smooth, irration free. Still feeling sharp. Going for #5 tomorrow.

Day 5 with the same blade. Still going smooth. A little tingle when I put the witch hazel on. I attribute this more to having to shave with cold water instead of hot. Going for #6 tomorrow.

Astra SP was night and day better than Derby in my R41.

The 7:00 Yellow was similarly smoother than the Astra, though not to the same degree.
Awesome shave and bloodless.

Yes, I've found that Astra SP is much better than Derby in my Slant even considering that the Slant likes most everything. I need to get hold of some Yellows and Blacks at some point and check them out too.

Day #6 with the same blade. Not as smooth as yesterday or the day before. I think I could go another day or two with the same blade, but today is my last day as I'm getting bored using the same blade and there are other blades I want to try also.

If anyone was wondering, I was matching this blade with my 41 Ranger Tech.

Again, a big thank you to Pipskicks for sending me the blades.
