#66 Aristocrat

With the prices of cartridge razor blades shooting through the roof and balding myself. I knew I had to find a more affordable alternative to remedy my balding.

I decided to research abit about wet shaving, as I heard it is much more affordable in the long run vs cartridge razors.

Having stumbled across a Anniversary Set No 52A Gillette LD Rocket, I quickly fell in love with the shaving experience which this razor offered.

Doing further research regarding the Gillette brand I came across a website by the name of mr Razor. I realized there was razors which resembled jewelry.

So I went on the hunt for a #66 Aristocrat Gillette Razor, as in my honest opinion it is one of the most beautiful razors out there.

6 months down the line a #66 Gillette Aristocrat finally crossed my path.

I could not believe my luck, as I did not know that the seller had the original case.

I discovered alot of rust was lurking underneath the inner materials of the case.

Fortunately all the trimmings can be salvaged.

The lizard leatherette will need te be replaced after I have removed the rust and platted or painted the case.

Which route would you guys suggest plate or paint. And which Leatherette/ Faux leather would be the closest to the original.

The English Aristocrats have been known to give amazing close shaves, even more so than the American counterparts. If your going for sparkle factor the Gillette president is quite impressive since it’s rhodium plated.

The president, diplomat, millord, Sheraton, senator and executive is definitely on the bucket list.

I will most likely only obtain that specific gem "President", once I live in America, Canada or Britain.

South Africa has very limited numbers of the desirable Gillette razors and people are starting to realize what the value of those are, so negotiating sometimes can become a headache. I have however been able to pick up a Gillette 1917 standard set for roughly 20 dollars.

Nice Aristocrat! Looks like you’re off to a good start. I agree with the quality shave possible from a President. Mine is far from being a looker but always comes through.

Look here for some case rehab inspiration.

It seems like it is going to be a struggle locating material similar to the original.

I have started playing around with the idea of buying an authentic snake skin purse and cutting it up.

Please comment with regards to which material in your opinion would look the best on the case?
