59 Gillette Super Speed DE Safety Razor~E3~SuperSmooth!

I recently bought a Merkur HD and have been shaving for a number of months. Still find it difficult to get a BBS without any weepers. I am thinking about acquiring a vintage razor. I am wondering if my various sampler packs blade (feathers, derbys, wilkinson, etc) are compatible with a Gillette Super Speed?

Why wouldn't they be? I have used Feathers in a Gillette New, Gillette Super Speed, Gillette Slim Adjustable, Gillette Fat Boy, Gillette Red Tip, Merkur 25C the open comb model, Merkur Progress, Parker 25R. They have fit perfectly in every razor.

I was just curious to know if the blades are made with a standard and will always fit in any safety razor regardless! Thanks for a speedy response.

DE blades are compatible with both, but I prefer different blades in each razor. Don't give up on the HD yet. Use the SS for a bit, then retry the HD. I find I like the SS in winter months and an HD in the summer.

With the exception of a few rare razors from the early part of the 20th century, all DE blades fit into all DE razors.

And don't go by other people's recommendations, you need to sample blades yourself. For every recommendation you get here, 2 people will tell you how much they hate a given blade!

With my SS I have used Feather New High Stainless, Gillette 7 O'Clock Black and Shark Super Chrome with equal results.

Welcome to B&B.

One of my first Razors was a Merkur HD, very respected razor around here.

But once I started using vintage Gillette Super Speeds, Aristocrats, Milords etc, I never looked back.
