#58 Non coronation razor

Anyone shave with one of these as of late? You don't hear to much about these. I just got done with shave #8 with a P74 blade and couldn't help but really like the knurling on this rocket type razor. Although not officially listed as a rocket. What do you say? Rocket or not? Anyway, the lines are snappy, with good cross hatching and lines going across the tto all add up to something like a fine oxford shirt. What a phenominal shaver this is. My non coronation set weighs a bit more than the alum one which I perfer in a razor. I like the overall aesthetics and balance of the razor also. Hopefully I'll one day be able to collect all three for collecting sake. I do have the #66 just not the case. So three cheers indeed.

I am not 100% Sure but i think the Coronation was all Aluminum when it came to the No.58 Razor ? So its a pretty light Razor Since i have Both No.58 and No.58 Coronation set )

You are 100% correct that the case with a crest came with an aluminum razor.

#66 & #58 together:)

I have the #58 but have been unsuccessful at getting a good shave with it due to the fact that I can only use the mildest of mild razors. These British razors do have the eye candy thing going on.

I'd love to be able to collect all of those coronation sets as well. 1953 was a great year..... my mother was born in that year.

Beautiful razor BTW.

Thank Ben for sharing that. I hope you find them. I'm happy with the top two as they are both great shavers.

Nice razor man! Looks well built :)

Thats my dads birth year :)

My dad's a 1952 X1.... my mom's a 1953 Y2. It's funny when you start thinking of your family members in terms of Gillette date codes. :001_tongu Yes, the late 1940's and early 1950's were good years for Gillette TTO solid bar razors.

Thank you. I've got a No. 66 non-coronation set on it's way from another member here. It could've been 1953 as well.... I'm just going to pretend it is even if it's a 1954.... kind of like what I do with my Rocket HD with the aluminum handle. To me those are 1953 razors since that's when my mom was born. I also have a cased Y2 President and a Y2 Super Speed (replated in rhodium) that is 1953 without a doubt.

Collecting sure can be a fun journey. I only found out a couple weeks ago that Gillette made coronation sets for the Tech and the No. 58. Before, I thought that the only coronation set was for a No. 66.

Dads a Y2 and mums a H2

I need to get a Y2 and my Gold Slim Aristocrat is H3 unfortunately haha :D

Question for the Gillette guys..... if the No. 58 razor has a "II" on the bottom of the baseplate, does that mean it's a 1959 German set like this one? Or did they place the "II" mark on the ones sold to the non-German market as well?:

#58 British Gillette, Rhodium plated, 72 gms.
I got this one in a trade.Heck of a nice shave.
Beautiful man!! Wow that thing is shiny new. Every time I pull this razor out I think Oxford or something formal. Don't know why but it just exhibits class. Something different about it from all the barber style razors I have. The shave is a wee bit on the aggressive side for me but doable with Mikes excellent slickness and protection.
