After 500 posts, it's high time I put up a PIF of my own. Even though I've never won a PIF myself, I've been the recipient of a lot of generosity on here and I want to put some back into the kitty. Today is also my 2nd wedding anniversary, so it's also a special occasion.
The PIF: Direct from my personal rotation, a Genco Forge Mark straight razor, 5/8 full hollow ground with black scales and a French(ish) point. Shave ready to my standards, honed on a progression of lapping films up to 1 micron with paper & lather. Also included will be a 3"x6" piece of 1 micron film for maintenance. It's pretty likely that some other shave items will find their way into the box as well (particularly if my wife gets into my shave den). The razor will be touched up on 1 micron and stropped prior to shipping. Straight from the box to your face.
Qualifications: Are you a new shaver? A veteran shaver? A connoisseur of fine wines? A collector with razors stacked up to the ceiling? Perhaps you like Arko over Tabac. Maybe Proraso doesn't do it for you like it does for me. Is your cable bill, much like the rent, too darn high? Are you an Army Ranger who leads the way? Do you still have the same car that you had when you were in high school? (I do) Maybe you're tired of waterstone or natural stone edges and want to try out a film edge. It could be that you want to justify your natural stone purchase by showing the comparative weakness of a film edge. Is Sophia your favorite Golden Girl? Do you have hardwood floors in your home? Did you see this PIF and decide to sign up just so you can get in on it? If any of these apply to you (or even if they don't), you can get in on this.
Anyone and everyone can get in on this PIF. No minimum post count or membership time. CONUS shipping is on me, but I may need a bit of assistance with international shipping; alcohol-based aftershaves (if any find their way into the box) will have to be replaced obviously. Here's how the PIF will be decided: the PIF will run for 48 hours. The winner will be decided according to a random selection on post count. Each entrant's post count will be noted and a random number generated from 1 to the highest post count number rounded to the nearest 100. The post count nearest the random number (over or under) will be the winner.
What do you have to do? Simple. Two things: one, wish my wife a happy anniversary (you may also express condolences or sympathy for having to put up with me as well ). Second, when you receive the razor and get your shave on with it, post back in this thread your evaluation of the edge and shave quality. Is it the greatest edge you've ever used? I wanna know this. Is this the worst edge you've ever used and you wouldn't wish it on your worst enemy? I wanna know this as well, or anything in between. Whatever your opinion is of it, I'd like to know...and if you have any suggestions for improving my edge qualities, fire away. Worst case scenario is that you end up with a pretty good, serviceable razor, right?
A couple of pics of the razor that you could be shaving with in as little as a few days:
