What's new

50 bucks to spend at AoS.

Fathers Day gift, may be there in two hours.

Need recommendations please. What would you buy?
ASB, soap, cream, strop, cologne, platimum handle for a fusion?

(that last one was not serious, I promise)

If the store you visit still has any tallow soap pucks, I would purchase those first. The reformulated pucks aren't bad if you don't know what else to purchase. I would also get a tub or tube of cream before getting a non-tallow puck though. Their aftershave balm is pretty good if you like balms.

Thanks James.
so in general AoS terms. their cream > soap.

is the ASB > Cream?

In general, tallow soap >= cream > non-tallow soap. AoS's aftershave balm is the only balm that I've tried so I have no comparison to other brands. I can say that it is thick and moisturizing. The store should have tester bottles for you to try. My local AoS store even has a sink so you can try out some of their products.

You may have already been to AoS but I would recommend their "unscented" pre-shave oil. I put unscented in quotes because it actually has a really nice smell and has a thick consistency that protects well.

Their creams are also very nice (read silky) and lather really well.

I know it's not a cool father's day thing to do, but sell the $50 gift card for $45 and then get 140% of the stuff from realistically priced sources. Heck, bath and body works has C. O. Bigelow cor $10 a tube right now with a buy 2 get 1 deal. That $45 would get you 6 tubes with enough to spare for a trip to taco bell.

^ Not a smart move with a GC from a loved one. Try explaining to your wife and kids why are you selling a GC they bought for you out of the goodness of their hearts, hoping you would love it and enjoy it, only to sell it and buy some Drug Store shave products. :thumbdown

Take James' advise and see if they have any tallow soap hidden away....if not, the Creams are outstanding with great scents (at least the Lavender and Lemon when I used them). I have used their Lemon Balm and it was nice, great scent and is on the thicker side.

The nice thing with a GC is you guy splurge and buy something you might not normally. Luckily you get to go to the store and sniff them before buying. Ocean Kelp gets good reviews and seems well regraded for being a nice scent, as does their Sandalwood.

AOS gets a bad rap for their overpriced products, but their soaps/creams are in line with other top tier stuff, which I consider them.

I'll take AOS cream over Bigelow any day of the week.

1 soap and 1 cream. Might be a touch over $50, but you're worth it Dad! You're heading to the store, so pick whatever scents curl your toes. It'd be Lemon or Ocean Kelp for me.

Oh. I've also enjoyed using the unscented cream with a variety of essential oils. The EO possibilities are almost endless.

I would go for a tub of sandalwood. They do that scent really well. I have a tube of lemon. But dont really notice the scent much, but my wife does and she likes it.

Well said, if they have some tallow based grab that, the cream is good stuff still. Or sell the wife, kids, gift card & use a fusion with bath soap, might last a while

You should be able to get a tub of cream and balm in the scent of your choosing in that range. Maybe go over by a few dollars... I am partial to their sandalwood products. I am noticing the time stamp and thinking my $0.02 may be too late.

let us know what you came out with!

How long you been married son?
:biggrin1:

I didn't quite get there, events transpired etc etc.

I welcome your recommendations gents! Looks like creams are winning the race. Dang, I should have made this a poll!
Still plenty of time to get more 2c advice in.

Except for KK and GWYM - even though one was for frugality and one was for thehellofit, both suggestions would get me a cold shoulder and a night or two on the couch. :)

Here's my 2 cents,

:thumbup1: Get whatever you like, be it soaps or creams or whatever it maybe. In my experience every product i have tried which is almost all of them have been top notch. They are at least as good as the THREE T's. As well I find the sandalwood to be the most well done version of the scent I have used rest assured you are getting quality software.
