$50 Badger Brush

I have been at this a few months, and I am definitely hooked. I have accumulated a decent collection of software. In fact, I am currently placing a self-imposed moratorium on buying any more soaps.

I would like to add one more brush to the collection. I started with a no-name Amazon $8 brush that I am ready to retire to a travel brush. I did buy an SOC in cherry, and I love it. I would like to add a quality badger brush (around $50 max), and then settle in for a good long while alternating between the new badger and the SOC. I always face lather, and don't have particularly sensitve skin.

Looking forward to your suggestions. Thanks in advance.

Theres plenty out there. My first Badger brush was a simpsons Duke but that was a pressent from SWMBO. THe first that I bought was a FS finest in faux horn tubby. A great brush and with a 26mm knot set around 55mm its a keeper. However I'm sure theres a few here who will update you with the names of some good custom set ups. Enjoy the hunt.

Thanks, fellas. I am looking into both. My SOC is in boar (which is why I want a badger). I DE shave in the shower, so I don't have to worry about making a mess. One of the things I like about my SOC is that it's nice and big. Let that lather fly.

Please don't underestimate whipped dog. I have had one 2 years it's different from my 2 band but has never shed a hair, and it's plenty soft.

There are lots of great brushes out there in your price range. I have been very happy with my Whipped Dog Silvertip. Very soft and luxurious. Mine is 24mm and set to standard depth, and I face lather with no issues. Lots of folks suggest getting the knot set deeper into the handle to add more backbone for face lathering. Either way, you won't see too many negative reviews of these brushes, and the prices are very reasonable (I paid extra to get a firehouse pottery handle, and still came in well under your budget).

I am a face-latherer with a slight preference for boars but especially the Simpsons in best are to my liking as well. The Commodore X1, the Berkeley 46, the Wee Scot, the Special and the Classic 1 all do a great job. But if you like smaller brushes (I do for face-lathering!) the best brush for the buck in my line-up is without a doubt the Special in best. The brush is a bit overlooked I think and it deserves a lot more attention. It lathers like crazy, is soft but still has a fair amount of backbone and the knot remains compact so you lather exactly where you want.

I know that a lot of have mentioned Whipped Dog. I'll admit, when I first heard the name I was like "are you kidding me? Whipped Dog?!?!"

And then I got one....I don't think you could get a better value for your brush. I have an Ivory Resin Pure Black Badger and it's amazing! I'm usually only Boar but I switch to my WD from time to time because it's that good.
