What's new

5/8 Flying Tudor Rose with fine Cocobolo

After doing a lot of reading it seems gd's are a very questionable straight so i thought ok i'll go for something i really fancy from a reputed seller, so has anyone got this gorgeous piece of kit, i've heard ti's are harder to hone but that doesn't bother me at all.

Would mineral oil be fine to look after a carbon blade?

How about TufGlide? Apply it once then once a year. If you dry your blades thoroughly before putting them away, it will inhibit most corrosion caused by atmospheric conditions.

Ah it's aromatherapy oil, i might have some of that lying about.

Ah tufglide now that does look like good stuff, im just awaiting the email from razurpur for the paypal payment.

Yeah, that's a pretty nice looking razor!

Key thing is to dry it off IMMEDIATELY after you're done shaving. Before you put on your aftershave, before you clean up your brush, before you clean up the huge mess you just made in the sink....take care of the razor #1.

Isn't she just, im itching to get the sale over and done with so i'll know she's as good as mine. :sneaky2:

Beautufil aren't they, i had a look at dovo's but they seem to be running out of stock very fast!!! plus i've heard the TI straights that use the older blanks make for some of the best shavers, plus i loved the look of it anyway. :001_tt1:

Congratulations - your payment was sent.

Yes!!! she's now mine. :biggrin1:

I do this too (clean the razor first), and I always think it's a bit ironic that I take care of the razor before I take care of my own face.

In the Jack London story "Man on the Trail", one of the marks of a seasoned trail veteran is that he cares for his dogs before caring for himself:

Crack! Crack! — they heard the familiar music of the dogwhip, the whining howl of the Malemutes, and the crunch of a sled as it drew up to the cabin. Conversation languished while they waited the issue.

"An old-timer; cares for his dogs and then himself," whispered Malemute Kid to Prince, as they listened to the snapping jaws and the wolfish snarls and yelps of pain which proclaimed to their practiced ears that the stranger was beating back their dogs while he fed his own.

A friend of mine has a malemute, beautiful dog but very vocal, not much use as a sled dog as they're deemed too big hence why you see huskies used.

Just had a further nose, it seems this lube might be identical to my progold prolink chain lube on my mtb, also explains why my chains never rusted until i switched lube either way i shall give that a try first.

Ok now i really can't wait for this razor, been doing a fair bit of reading and hollow ground razors are meant to be the best shavers, they need a light touch and aren't ideal for heavy beards more meant tor daily use, they maintain a far sharper edge and provide a smoother cleaner shave.

Mine has a double stablilizer to keep any flex to a minimum and although it's not designed to be a singing razor such as the prima klang it should however be capable of doing so.

Sounds like the ideal blade for me, i have a very light touch when using the futur and didn't like how i had to be much heavier with the gd, so no wonder it costs so much as there's a lot of extra machining involved.

Nice.

Pictures and my opinions of my shave will be up asap, i just hope it arrives fine, i've had problems with dhl in the past.

As far as maintenance , I used to use baby oil which worked fine, now I use Ballistol. Razor must be rinsed with hot water after shave and wiped, then leave it for a ~20 min open before oiling it. That procedure has worked great for my razors so far.

Thanks oh i'll baby this straight don't you worry.

Funnily enough mtb chain lubes the dry variety are near damn identicasl, both leave a dry film, won't attract dust and try and keep rust off the chaain so id imagine what i have here is perfectly fine, i might try some barbicide more for it's antibacterial properties.

Tbh i've been off my game, been feeling like death of late so my technique is way off as i can't focus to tonight's shave should be very interesting eh.

Yes she has finally arrived and a beautiful little thing she is, nice edge too very fine indeed, the blade lines up perfect to the scales not a single problem.

Even got a small can off ballistol and better yet a bag of haribo!! :thumbup1:

Got a big bottle of tufglide here so i'll just be generous with the ballistol in the meantime.

Thanks, just had my first shave and i got what i feel was an acceptable shave, took a good few passes and im learning that i have to hit the hair diagonally to catch it right in time im sure i'll have bbs shaves from it.
