The set's a looker for sure. And I'm familiar with the winner of the bid (not his real name, but his ID). He's the same guy who won the 490$ #21 set and the 530$ #15 set. Should be a very rich person!

Let me ask you guys, do all abc sets have that sort of stubby, carrot-shaped comb? Also, are these handles prone to warping? I have passed on a few which have been bent over the years or were in rough shape and had the plain old old-type comb.

I am not going to crucify these people for using an slr with good lighting and composition. I wish the ppl buying these razors at a premium would start a thread with uploads of what was sent their way and how it compared to actual pics.

I don't think they are prone to warping in general, but I've seen it quite often on the Scroll pattern handles for some reason.

Interesting... Every one I have seen has either been a warped scroll, had a rough head, or stripped threads in the handle which just stinks. But the bottom plate above is the only style? Short, stubby V teeth?

No, there are a couple of different style of combs on the ABC razors. As can be seen from this picture in this thread: http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showth...n-Company-Pocket-Edition-Sets-Part-One-Razors

Quote from thread:

"Variations in Teeth Style
The last oddity is the shape of some of the comb teeth found on the ABC guard. Note the rounded shape of the teeth on the left guard and the squared off shape of the teeth from another ABC razor. Both of these razors were produced in 1909. Of the 12 razors in my (Len) ABC sets, 3 have rounded teeth. Also note the faint letter at the beginning of the serial number. In some sets it is very difficult to determine the letter. It was caused by too infrequent changing of the letter punch in relation to the number usage."

The reliefs were stamped onto those handles, no? Maybe that's why.

The handles are solid and I believe they were casted.

Just as a point of information, that is a Gillette made case, not an ABC case on that set.

What makes you say that, Connie? It's certainly not the flip-latch style case I would expect to see a 1909 serial-numbered razor in, but it did have a repair serial, too, so I suppose the case could have been replaced later. But unless I'm missing something it does look like a later four-rivet style ABC case to me.

You are right Porter and I was wrong, it is an ABC case. When I looked at this picture....

.... last night, I didn't see the that it was a label on the inside of the lid. It looked to me like the Gillette trademark had been printed right on the fabric which would have made it a Gillette case.

This morning I went directly to the ebay listing and looked at the rest of their pictures and could see that it really was a label from looking at another picture. I also saw the the patent dates on the bottom of the case which is further evidence that it is indeed an ABC case.

I must admit, this set is stunning :) Nothing to compare with the usual ADC kit you can find for less but are in really USED condition.

This interior was so Mint it hard to believe that there was a Razor Sitting in there for over 100+ years with no kimd of indentations in the Top Lining ? But if these cases are a little Taller then the Latched Cases "Which I Love" then that explains no razor indentations on the Material top part of the case.

Its def a Beautiful set, and CFM does do good restoration work, which is very different from Replating. Just take a look at some of sets ive restored and other's have restored, except i don't get in between the combs Teeth like like CFM does, im going to have to get me some good dental tools for that kinda work ;o)
