3T & DR Harris AS ingredients

Hi Fellas!

Can someone help me out w/ my aftershave splash hunt with ingredients?

I want an AS splash that is more than alcohol and fragrance. I would like it to have some moisturizing goodies (glycerin, allantoin, etc)

I heard that trumpers splash is just alcohol.

How about Truefiitt, TOBS, or DR Harris?

I was going to order the T&H sample set to get an idea of fragrance, but figured I should square this away first. TIA

I don't know because I don't use alcohol aftershaves but I've been slapping pure glycerin on after and it really does moisterize. I also just ordered an alum block and ordered this Apple Cider Vinegar tonic that is quite easy to find a home-made recipe on. I cannot vouch for it but I'm excited to give it a try, can't get much cheaper.

I'm pretty sure the 3Ts aftershave splashes are just alcohol and fragrance.

If you really like the smell of the 3Ts you can always follow up the splash with a moisturizer or aftershave balm after.

You may want to check out Thayer's alcohol free witch hazel toners. These are alc free toners that have aloe, vitamin e, and glycerin in them. You can use them in addition to, or instead of, and alcohol based splashes.

Earth Essentials makes a fantastic aftershave that has lots of goodies for the skin in there. No alcohol, but it has alum for antiseptic properties.

Saint Charles Shave and The Shave Den make aftershave splashes that are not just alc and perfume that get good reviews around here. I haven't tried them, but I will at some point, maybe. Musgo Real is another one that people like, but I haven't tried that yet either. I have a sample that I'll give a go next week. Another one on my list of things to try is Aubrey Organics after shave splashes.

Trumper's Skin Food is a bit thicker than AS, but filled with what you seek. Good stuff. Thayers Witch Hazel and Superhazel are more along the lines of a true astringent but also filled with goodness.

The splashes from T&H, Taylors, and Trumpers are all old-school English aftershaves. There's not much beyond alcohol, fragrance, and preservatives.

Skin Food!!! It's amazing. I also like Proraso ASB.

The back of my Dr. Harris Sandalwood splash says:

Alcohol
(+/- Aqua)
Parfum
(+/- Glycerol)
Diethyl Phthalate
Cetrimonium Bromide

Cetrimonium Bromide is an anti-septic according to Wikipedia. Diethyl Phthalate, according to Google, is found in plastics. I have no idea why it's in an afterhsave.

Thanks everyone.

I am going to look into the SCS AS, Thayers, and Col Conk AS since I like their soaps.

Harris Pink has got to have some moisturizing ingredients in it. The alcohol percentage is very small and I feel like it is leaving something behind to soak into my skin when I use it.

In post # 7 above the Glycerol in Harris Sandalwood is a moisturizer.

I don't think it can be generalized that the three T's aftershaves are alcohol and fragrance only, probably need to take it on a case by case basis.

Indeed, Trumper aftershaves are alcohol, water and fragrance, plus color. They are high alcohol and pretty harsh, which is too bad, because some of them smell fantastic. I've never tried T&H or TOBS splashes. D.R. Harris alcohol splashes are a little kinder, but not by a huge amount, if my own experience is anything to go by. One exception is Harris Pink, which contains basically water, alcohol, glycerin, fragrance and color, plus an antiseptic and preservative. It is low in alcohol and very mild.

I think some of the best alcohol splashes on the market are Santa Maria Novella's aftershave lotions. Pricewise, they're on a par with Trumper splashes, but are much better crafted, assuming you can find a fragrance you like. Scroll to the bottom of the linked review for an ingredients list.
