Monday 29th May, shave #149

Preshave: Hot washcloth
Soap: Mitchell's Wool Fat
Brush: Yaqi 24mm synthetic cashmere
Razor: GC.84 SB, Al Handle, Astra SP #1
Bowl: Turkish copper
Post-shave: Nivea Hyaluron

Loaded a fresh Astra, and took a bit longer today, for a good near-BBS.

Unless I see desirable vintage kit, or some new developments, I think I'm done with buying DEs. I'm getting almost ideal functionality out of the GC.84P.

I did have to find a different handle (Windrose, 84mm aluminium, 23g) to personally optimise it.

Notes to these shaves:

Today’s shave was amazing. The Ti95 is my most favourite razor. The Athena is a very close second at the moment. The Razorock 400. What can I say. Bliss.

Shave#150 of 365 (100%)

Razor:
RR Lupo 95 SB
Blade: Astra SS (7)
Brush: Yaqi Moka-Express 2 band badger
Soap: MWF
A/S: Old Spice
Moisturizer: Nivea Hyaluron

Tonight MWF made its return for another attempt to get good shave from the Lupo. I am still having problems getting a close shave with it despite it having a larger gap than my Rocca. I don't know if it is my technique (likely), the blade (possibly) or something completely out of left field. It is still a near BBS on my neck but just not as good as the Rocca.

Tuesday 30th May, shave #150

Preshave: Hot washcloth
Soap: Nivea Men Shaving Creme
Brush: Yaqi 24mm synthetic cashmere
Razor: GC.84 SB, Al Handle, Astra SP #2
Bowl: Turkish copper
Post-shave: Nivea Hyaluron

As usual, the blade was a lot smoother on the second shave. Got a good near-BBS.

The post-shave from this cream isn't bad, but it falls short of the MWF/SV league.

I am still having problems getting a close shave with it despite it having a larger gap than my Rocca.

I had to play about with a shimmed GC.68P before I could get the (now favourite) .84 to feel "right".

I was wondering whether the Rocca would still feel like the sweet spot if you shimmed it. I don't know its starting gap, though.

A shim would a cheaper experiment than a Lupo .72 baseplate...

Notes to these shaves:

Considered to do a last minute switch to my Tech, but decided to do that for another time and finish May on a high with the Athena. Superb shave with excellent results.

I think the gap on the Rocca is about .81
