What's new

3 Months of SRAD in Pictures . . .

I have been at this about 3 months now and have seriously been bitten with the straight shaving bug. I think I'm pretty much done acquiring things for awhile and I wanted to post my stuff. I will describe each pic in a separate post.

I don't have any soap / AS pics. I have about 10 soaps mostly in WCS/Bullgoose aluminum tins. I currently use MWF, Tabac, DR Harris Arlington, Proraso, Ogallala Bay Rum (Lemongrass, Cedar & Sage), Col. Conks Bay Rum, Thiers Issard Sandlewood, EJ Sea Buckthorn. For AS I am using Proraso balm and splash, Nivea sensitive and some Real Shaving Company sensitive balm.

I also didn't take any pics of my honing kit. I am using a Zwilling Henckels Twin Pro 3K/8K combo Japanese hone (like Norton), a Chinese 12K, a Shapton 16K and I also use a CrOX pasted hanging strop on occasion. I have a Norton truing / lapping stone as well.

Brushes: I love both of these brushes and alternate between them each day.

This is my first razor. It is a new forging Zwilling Henckels carbon steel 5/8" 3/4 hollow. This was the one that started it all. It was a Christmas gift and is responsible for most of my learning - as such I have a love / hate relationship with this one...

Next up - a Sheffield razor. This is a vintage "Celebrated Hammer" brand razor which is 6/8" (singing) full hollow. I got this razor from an ebay seller and have used it to practise honing. It is actually a really good shaver and is fairly heavy. It has ox bone scales.

This is a Dovo Stainless Steel Pearlex 5/8" Hollow Ground. I bought this from a B&B member and had it honed by Scott in Calgary.

Next, is a NOS Solingen no-name razor. It is a "Best Silver Steel" 4/8" full hollow with faux tortoise scales. I bought this from Paolo an Italian collector with 600 vintage and NOS razors in his collection. It is a fantastic shaver.

This one is another Solingen razor. It is a Muhle brand 5/8" full hollow. I believe it is a new forging and is a surprisingly good shaver.

This is a 6/8" 3/4 to full hollow Le Grelot with black scales. I don't have to tell you folks how well this razor works. It is one of my favourites.

Finally - this is a newly acquired vintage, NOS Johann Briedohr Les Croix 6/8" full hollow beauty. It was forged pre WWII and then manufactured post WWII by Briedohr. I bought this from Paolo in Italy as well. I haven't yet shaved with it as I am waiting until my honing abilities are up to the standards of this razor.

And finally, my strop. This thing completely changed the quality of all of my shaves. This is a 2 1/2" RupRazor Paladin strop. It is horsehide and canvas and is a great product from Ken at RupRazor.

Great setup! I've recently been bitten my the SRAD bug too...surfing Ebay for finds and buying off reputable B&B members who know how to hone...I hate all ADs!!!

You have some nice razor's looks like you are partial to hollow ground round point's. Was wondering if you have tried spanish, french and square point razors or any of the various 1/4 1/2 3/4 ground or wedge types? Oh the AD's:tongue_sm

I am partial to round points - I did try a spike point and while it shaved well, it wasn't as forgiving. As for shallower grinds and wedges . . . I have not tried them . . . yet. It will be interesting to see the difference.
