Okay, so I'm a day late this year, but last night I came home to a birthday dinner cooked by my 5-year-old, a new pipe, and a bottle of small batch bourbon...so I figured this could wait. Anyway, here's the story for those of you who weren't around last year:
I am regularly amazed at the generosity displayed by so many members here. B&B is a unique and wonderful corner of the internet, and I've benefitted greatly from being a member here, so I want to do a little something to give back. Just like last year, this PIF is aimed at the DE shaver who has been feeling the call to take the plunge, man up, and try a straight razor. Here's your chance to do just that - with zero investment. Everything you need to trade up to a straight, in one neat, tidy package.
So, if you think you're up for it, or if you just can't get that nagging feeling out of your head, this is the PIF for you. My intention is to give back to B&B here, so I am limiting eligibility to active members (50 posts) and/or contributors. Anywhere in the world, doesn't matter. If you meet those criteria, simply post in this thread that you would like to be included. That's all you have to do.
The winner of this PIF will receive a restored Wostenholm pipe razor, with original horn scales. The blade does have some hone wear, and a distinct patina, but no oxidation or pitting at all. It is in fine shape, and will be honed by me to shave ready condition (by my standards) on my Naniwas. You will need something to keep this edge in shave ready condition, so you will also receive a brand new, never used Tony Miller "practice" strop. No bells and whistles, but a fine 2 1/2" slab of leather crafted by one of the masters.
You'll also need something to occasionally refresh that edge. Last year, the package included an 8"x3" C12K natural hone, which made the package weigh several pounds. This year, I have seen the light, and will be including a sheet of .5 micron lapping film instead. All you'll need to supply is a suitably flat surface, such as a piece of granite flooring tile. Okay, so that might not be the "zero investment" I promised you, but it's not more than a couple bucks, or you might get lucky in the refuse pile at Home Depot. Just like last year, I didn't plan ahead early enough, so I do not actually have the lapping film in my possession just yet - that's why it's not in the picture. It's on the way, though, and should be here by the time I close this out and pick a winner.
So there it is. I know a lot of you have been sitting on the fence for a while. Consider this a nudge...Go straight for my birthday. I will leave this open for a week or so, and will randomly pick a winner from all eligible entrants. Thanks again to B&B, and to our exceptional members, who make this the wonderful place that it is. Good luck to all!
