2025 Shave Purchase Sabbatical - The Battlestar Galactica Year

Ditto, ditto
While I was going to offer to take that horrible, terrible, ugly Ti-Bird off your hands... (sarcasm of course)

... have you tried the standard safety bar, or even open comb instead of the lite plate?
The standard plate was a bit too hot for me for daily shaves. That was what I started with and I fell in love with the design. I still am, but, something in between would be ideal.

I think you would like the Outlaw Classic also very much Bill. It is stainless rather than Ti, but the specs are close to the Blackbird with less blade feel (I am thinking Lite). I find that razor outperforming my standard Blackbird by a landslide.

This is the first time I've ever heard anyone say there's something that significantly outperforms the 'Bird, let alone by a landslide! I want to hear more...

There are more razors that outperform the Blackbird - for me of course. Others are reporting spectacular shaves with the BB. And it depends on the materials you use too I guess. But a Greencult 2.0II is very similar and with less blade feel. If you have nothing to do:
  • Blackbird versus Greencult 2.0 II here.
  • Blackbird versus Timeless Ti95 SCL here.
  • Blackbird versus Athena: here.
Again, all based on my personal experience, my technique and my face...results might vary!

Saturday, Futuruary 8th, 2025 ~ GRUYERE2025, Futuruary (All Futurs All February), 38 & 39/300+

Still in, no issues, enjoying shaving my own shave!

Finally did a true and honest one-passer of Friday! Didn't worry about leaving lather on my brush, taking the blade out, etc. Left it all in the shower for today. Rinsed the brush and frankensoap bowl.

Got a stupendously clean, smooth, and comfortable shave today with yesterday's left in place gear set up. A ton of frankenlather and wet brush helped slide along the Futur with a DerbyPremium (1) along for 3 passes on my head and 3 on my face. Kept the Futur on 2.5 today and yesterday's shaves.

I like the Floid more and more with each use.

Cheers for a good weekend, whatever you are doing!

Wow! Thanks very much.

Paradoxically, this information might help me from falling off the GRUYERE -- if I have too much information to sift through and too many options to examine, I might be paralyzed enough to NOT buy any razor until after the Galactica docks! So, a silver lining -- you may have saved me from myself!

Well, we know that BBs will most likely be around next year too, so no real need to get them. And in full disclosure: I got the Blackbird last year as my exception razor, because I just needed to know how it shaved with all these raving posts. I am still on the fence if I made the right decision or not. Really. I love its design, I like the shaves, but the wow-factor I have yet to experience. But I have read that the BB is like a boar brush - you need to keep using it and then all of a sudden it clicks. It is just that with other razors I click easier or earlier.

With your razor stable you should be in an excellent position to get great shaves. And now with that superb CC bowl you should be good anyways! Feel free to read the other comparisons too - if I cannot convince you, the least I can do is confuse you :pipe:!

It began as Jikoryen, Derby, & ARKO. Then Noble Otter NEON SUN, B&M Leviathan, B&M Muir Wood, Stirling Ski Lodge and Bay Rum, maybe another free sample was put in. I think that's it!
That's a nice variety! You're missing out on Tabac by the way

I have mixed ARKO with Tabac into Tabarko. I would not have guessed B&M Leviathan in there. B&M have a really different base in that sense. At least Leviathan was more of a slush than a lather for me. Great soap, I just had to work harder to get it to perform.

Enjoy that Frankensoap!!

The confusion is (not sarcastically) GREATLY appreciated. I feel like I can at least delay an inevitable razor purchase but still indulge my interest by diving deeper into this.

When I pop out of the BB rabbit-hole on January 1st, 2026 (much like Puxatawney Phil), I hope to feel much more certain about any pending purchases.

In the past, that may have triggered me to start looking to acquire some Tabac.
No sorry! I wasn’t implying that you should buy it! My apologies. I was merely responding to the large amounts of soap that went into your Frankensoap. I thought the one thing missing would be Tabac! Haha!

You are doing excellent! Use what you have and enjoy that to the max! That is the restraint recipe. Well done!
