2025 Shave Purchase Sabbatical - The Battlestar Galactica Year

Still in. Shaves like this, I wonder why I would need anything else.

Still in.
Just been shaving with my EJs and Muhles.
I’ve recently found out these are great razor that work for me shaving every day.
I’ve also been hooked on MDC Argumes and Castle Forbes lime, with my silver tip badger brushes.
As for blades I throw whatever I’m feeling that day. Been really enjoying Treet TJax and Wizamets.
I’ll post some pictures when I get time.

Hoping everyone has some great shaves!

The 89’s are very fine! Only razors I’ll ever need 😀

Thank you!

Thank you!

Thanks! I'm happy to still be in the 2025 sabbatical.

Hi,

Actually, it *is* the point. Stop buying, sit on what you have, and think about what you want next.

What we are all trying to stop is the knee-jerk buying which results from reading about what every other person on B&B is buying and going on about.

One way to sit and think before buying is the exception. Another way is to finish the restraint and not keep on. Then there is the re-up and use the two weeks for restock to take care of business.

I use the re-up and restock scheme myself.

I once bought four razors off of eBay one year. So that's four times as bad!

But, I took all year to figure out just what I was going for in January. That did force me onto eBay rather than the BST because I only had two weeks to get them all paid for.

After giving some careful consideration to my purchase of my buddy's Karve this past week, I've decided that I'm out! The Karve is simply a "nice to have" and the purchase was not in keeping with the purpose of the sabbatical. I feel that restocks should only be used to replace consumables such as blades, soaps, aftershaves, etc. with like minded products and not to increase the size of one's den. With my purchase of the Karve, I have added an additional razor to my den which violates the spirit of the sabbatical.

With that said, it's been 3 years for me being in the annual sabbaticals and I've enjoyed using up my stock and selling off my collection of razors. I have no intention of buying anything further this year, so I'll play along on the "home" edition.

I wish you all the best of luck and stay strong!

If that razor works for you it's not frivolous, and you're still in the restock period. I'd say you are still in. My 2 cents.
restock period, or that could be the one exception. Just a thought.

Is it swell time?

Jim, I would contest you are still in - even if you gentlemanly dubbed yourself out which is totally acting with integrity on your behalf.

However, I remember joining the 2023 restraint when you mentioned you got a CB razor (coincidentally a Karve as well).
I placed an order for 2 tubs of Captain’s Choice soaps and a Karve Chris Bradley razor
The CB was an addition because you sold off too many if I recall. But I am hallucinating it wasn’t a need technically, because you had razors to shave with.
I’m really looking forward to using the Karve.
I would too! Especially if it’s an Overlander you use during the 2025 restraint!!

We are still underway to our first landing spot and until then we cannot abandon ship! That would mean floating into space.

So in my world the 2023 Jim would tell the 2024 Jim he’s still in.

Did I build my case enough to keep you in??

Cheers,

Guido

Don’t we all have enough?
I'm here to keep from buying soaps. I have and will continue to abide by all the purchasing restrictions, but I'm all about the soaps because they are my weakness. So my take is there is nothing wrong with buying a razor during restock if you are so inclined. Why should that rule anyone out given that we can specify a razor as an exception and consequently buy it at any time?

Re the particular case of @Jim99, could he retroactively be accept a razor as an exception?

All of you are bringing up points why I should stay in and why I shouldn’t be in.

I now have a total of seven razors now in my den and that’s down from a high of approximately 70 razors as recently as 6 years ago. These sabbaticals have helped me whittle down my blades, soaps and aftershaves and compelled me to sell off and give away the bulk of my DE, SE, injector and straight razors. Due to an assortment of life changes, I came to the realization that quality and not quantity is what’s important to me. Life has taught me that it’s much to short to hoard.

So where am I going this year? My artisan soaps are done and I’m using the last of my Williams and VDH pucks this year. When that runs out, I’ll do what @Quaznoid does and use soap scraps from the shower. I have enough Aqua Velva to last me well into 2026 and around 700 blades to last me the rest of my life. You know what? I’ll still enjoy my shaves!

I love the camaraderie of this thread, I really enjoy the bantering and comments from everyone and want to stay in. However, I don’t want to water down the purpose of this thread or lead anyone down the path of treewhaling during a restock period.

So, if @Guido75 says I’m in, then I’m in!

Ditto. If I stacked up all my soaps, they would reach to the top of my chest… and I’m 6’3” tall. They are my weakness.
