Peter, thanks for the tip. The maple is currently stickered in my unheated/uncooled garage/shop. I have pulled off some of the loose bark but will be a bit more diligent and yank off the rest of it. I know it is a few years out in terms of being able to do anything with the slabs... I pray that they will be lighter once they dry out a bit. The big ones took the forks on my tractor and two people to set the "other half" of the slab on the stack. I am not looking forward to the day where I need to the move thirty or so slabs to decide which one I want to use for what... I might need to stock up on some beer and bbq as a reward to give to a few friends that might be foolish enough to help me move them around.
I will probably make a couple practice pieces before I attempt the dining tables. SWMBO is already eying one of the smaller pieces to be an entry table/side board.
