1st Straight Razor Shave Went Well

I just finished my first straight shave, luckily everything went well. I made a few passes only 1 tiny nick & 1 cut that looks like a papercut but didn't bleed. The only issues I had was with my neck & chin area... I have to work on the proper grip / positioning in those areas. Plus I didn't want to go all sweeny Todd on mysely 8) - I finished those sections off with a pass of the slant.

Very close shave. Just takes a bit of getting used to it 8)

NIce going! The chins are the most dificult area!! You have to study very well how your beard work in that area! The razor must be very sharp also! Im in my 10 / 11 shave and this area its gives me a lot to think:smile:! BUt getting better every time i do it!!

Thanks, I figure it will take time. Im just glad I didn't have too many problems.

There was one thing I noticed, there was a bit of drag (i guess you could call it that) when using the razor. Maybe I am not holding it at the correct angle. Ill try again tomorrow and see how it goes.

Good work Matt!

I wouldn't worry too much about the drag, try to do a few extra laps on your strop. Also, I noticed that when you do a pass for the first time with a straight it has a tendency to be difficult. Next day, it goes smoothly. Either my razor is sharper or technique is getting there.

Neck is difficult but not impossible, the chin is something else. I'm still working it but I got a smooth chin this morning. I do not have a BBS but it's getting close. I must be on straight shave #15 now.

Drag is probably too high of an angle/too much pressure. Usually causes irritation after the shave. Pulling is caused by a razor thats not lightsaber sharp. Try lowering the angle. You can add pressure, but be careful, it really burns if you put too much when using a really sharp razor.
