Thanks to the sister I had a nice gift certificate to Italian Barber that i used to snatch up some Cella and a new Artist Club SS Japanese style. I've never used a straight razor before but had this huge desire to give one a whirl. I have a Cobra Classic so I have plenty of blades on hand and am well aware of what a Feather Professional blade is capable of. The shave went much better than expected. I did a 2 pass shave and I did switch hands. I had only one small nick that wasn't due to aything more then my clumsy left hand that allowed the razor to touch my neck in an awkward manner. The audible feedback was decent on the razor. I have no scale but the weight seemed less than that of the Cobra so I had to be careful to not use any pressure. With the Cobra the weight takes over and no pressure is no problem. With this one I'll have to be careful. All in all it was a fantastic shave and one that was highly gratifying as well. It's been a long weekend as I came down with a nasty cold and have been pent up in the house all weekend. Luckily my Artist Club, my Cella, and my pot of MdC unscented all arrived yesterday!

There are some nice shaves to be had from a SS, although I prefer the RG & DX versions myself. Ah and the Cobra, that's another one I won't let go off. Hope you get better soon!
That SS is a really nice straight. I have all the Feathers, and use the SS often.

How does the weight compare from the SS Japanese vs the western SS? How does the weight compare to the DX? What is the heaviest of all the Artist Club razors?
