1K quality

For grits 3K and above I've upgraded my stones--to Belgian Blue, Guangxi etc. I'm still using an inexpensive Chinese 1K corundum stone when I need to go back to the beginning.

Sufficient? Other stone options? Does the expense warrant a 1K upgrade? Thanks all.

Found my King 1K functional but much happier when I upgraded to a Shapton Pro 1.5K a good few years ago.

I find that I go back to my Shapton 1.5k more and more. It’s something about he way the Shapton stones feel for me. Also, you get a nice storage box and holder. But if your 1k is doing the job, no need to get another unless you want to try something different, which is always fun.

Love the Shapton Kuromaku series. Not sure if it comes in a 1.5k...I have the 1k and 2k....great stones.

I think if it works for you, keep it. I use a whole range of stones for bevel setting.

Lapping film, 12um or 15um, works great for me!

If your shaves are good then I would say it is working for you, if you find your edges not great it could be any number of reasons
