What's new

1917 Aristocrat U.S.A.

Im hoping someone from B&B bought this one.

1917 Aristocrat U.S.A.

I didnt want to get my hopes up when I bid on it, but $372.98 is just out of my league at this moment.

Well anyways who is the proud new owner of this one?

dont know who got it, but this seller always seems to have good razors for sale, at a price mind:w00t:

I have noticed that there is a lot of rare razors being thrown on the bay recently. Too bad I dont have money like that to spend but I hope someone from here at least bought them.

Let me be the first to congratulate you on one of the nicest looking razor sets out there :thumbup1:

Congratulations on a fine set. They are very hard to find, especially with the case in good shape and even a partial packer. You pick them up when you can, if you can. I was very lucky when I found mine and even though it was pricey it was not nearly as high as this one. Now I'm really glad I got mine when I did.

There is just one thing that we ask from you.......let us know how it shaves!

Congrats on the excellent score! I really would like to find one of these some day. I was tempted to jump in the action, but when I woke up this morning and saw that it was approaching $200, I was out. Those sets seem to be very rare. I guess if I'm going to own one, it'll have to be a find at an antique shop. Anyways, congrats on the excellent purchase!

Congratulations, this is a very desirable item and it's great news that it's now in the hands of someone who knows its real value.

felicitations mon ami, laissez le bon rouleau de temps. French is a little rusty but I remember good times with my friends from the Legion. Congratulations and let the good times roll. Life is short, if you get a chance at something you really want, why not do it?

I am the winner, I was looking for that for years...
Very expensive for sure!

I actually threw a large chunk at it, but when I saw what it finally went for, I was amazed. It looks like a very sweet set. Sit it next to a cased Double ring and man, what a sight that would be!

Congratulations!

They seem awfully rare, but is there some empirical evidence of that?

Hey congrats! I just picked up a 1916 Aristocrat myself a couple of weeks ago. Very elegant razor and case. Your case is in better shape than mine. (see pic of mine below). Shaves like a single ring/Old Type Big Fellow has been my conclusion from the few trials I've given it - in other words, excellent! The handle feels as good as it looks, better than the standard single ring handles.

Enjoy!

I'm very new to this and this is my first post, but I have an Autocrat from the early 1900's in its original case.

It was very rusty when I got it and the shells were broken. I have removed all of the rust, though there is still some obvious pitting a tiny bit on the cutting edge itself. I managed to hone the razor to a shaver ready edge and have shaved with it even. I replaced the shells with very inexpensive black plastic ones just to protect the blade more than anything else.

Someone who knew what they were doing could restore this razor, I'm sure of that. It was owned by a barber who used it at the turn of the 19th century. I got it from his daughter, who is now nearing 100 years old.

Markings on it are as follows: Autocrat (in script) on the blade. Just under the 't' in the word is 'Reg.' On the tang is: Jameson & Co Finest Sheffield Make.

It looks to be a 5/8 blade.
